Preamble
Adequate notice of this January 5, 2015 Reorganization and Open Work Session Meeting of the
Cranford Board of Education was provided December 9, 2014 by a meeting notice posted in the
Board Room, Lincoln School, and communicated to the Cranford Chronicle, the Star Ledger, the
Office of the Township Clerk, and all Board members. Action may be taken by the Board of
Education at this Meeting.

*During the course of the board meeting the Cranford Board of Education offers members of the public an
opportunity to address issues regarding the operation of the Cranford Public Schools. The Board reminds
those individuals who take this opportunity to identify themselves by name and address and to limit their
comments to items listed on the agenda and/or items directly related to the operation of the School District.
Issues raised by members of the public may or may not be responded to by the Board. All comments will be
considered and a response will be forthcoming if and when appropriate. The Board asks that members of the
public be courteous and mindful of the rights of other individuals when speaking. Specifically, comments
regarding students and employees of the Board are discouraged and will not be responded to by the Board.
Students and employees have specific legal rights afforded by the laws of New Jersey. The Board bears no
responsibility nor will it be liable for any comments made by members of the public. Members of the public
should consider their comments in light of the legal rights of those affected or identified in their comments and
be aware that they are legally responsible and liable for their comments.

SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH
WHEREAS, the New Jersey School Boards Association and the National School
Boards Association have declared January 2015 to be School Board Recognition Month,
a time that all residents might acknowledge the contributions made by our local school board
members, and
WHEREAS, the Cranford Board of Education is one of 584 local school boards in New
Jersey that sets policies and oversees operations for public school districts, and
WHEREAS, the Cranford Board of Education embraces the goal of high-quality
education for all New Jersey public school students, and
WHEREAS, New Jersey’s local school boards help determine community goals
for the education of 1.4 million children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, and
WHEREAS, New Jersey’s 4,800 local school board members, who receive no
remuneration for their services, act as advocates for public school students as they work with
administrators, teachers and parents for the betterment of public education, and
WHEREAS, school boards strive to provide the resources necessary to meet the needs
of all students, including those with special needs, and
WHEREAS, boards of education provide accountability to the public, they communicate
the needs of the school district to the public, and they convey to school administrators the
public’s expectations for the schools, and
WHEREAS, New Jersey can take pride in its schools, which rank among the nation’s
best in indicators such as high school graduation rates, class size, college entrance exam
participation, and Advance Placement offerings and test scores, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cranford Board of Education, does
hereby recognize the services of local school board members throughout New Jersey as we
join communities statewide in observing January 2015 as SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION
MONTH, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Cranford Board of Education urges all New
Jersey citizens to work with their local boards of education and public school staffs toward
the improvement of our children’s education.

BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education appoints Mary Venditti as the delegate
to the New Jersey School Boards Association and Jill Brown as the alternate pursuant to
N.J.S.A. 18A:6-46.

READY PROGRAM TUITION RATE
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education approves a tuition fee of $370.00 per
month for non-disabled students attending the district’s READY half-day program for the
2015 – 2016 school year.

FIELD TRIP DESTINATION APPROVAL
WHEREAS, the Board of Education is required pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-5.8 to preapprove all field trip destinations and to ensure that such trip is educationally necessary,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of
Schools, that the Board of Education authorizes in advance, as required by code, the field trip
destinations as per attached listing.

BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of Education, affirms the Superintendent of Schools
decision as reported on Non-HIB received at its regularly scheduled Board of Education
meeting on January 5, 2015 regarding student cases numbers 2014/2015 – 8 and 9.

SKILLS APPOINTMENT
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the
Superintendent of Schools, approves Bradley Harris to provide social skills instruction to
special education students from January 15, 2015 through April 5, 2015, at a rate of $40.90
per hour, total hours not to exceed 12 hours for the 2014-2015 school year. (District)

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the
Superintendent of Schools, approves the following appointments:
1. Peter Lee, Teacher of Chemistry, effective on or about January 14, 2015 through
June 30, 2015. He earned an MA from Brooklyn College and a BA from New York
University. His salary will be based on Scale IV, Step 3-5, $59,116.00. (prorated)

2015. He earned an Ed.M from Rutgers University and a BA from Seton Hall

2015 through April 30, 2015. She earned a BA from Rutgers University. Her salary

30, 2015. Her salary will be $13.00 per hour not to exceed 10 hours per week when
