POSITION DESCRIPTION Title: Director of Development Reports To: Chief Executive Office www.cebde.org POSITION Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Director of Development will be a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Community Education Building (CEB). In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build the CEB’s visibility, impact and financial resources. The Director of Development will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external and national alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support. The Director of Development will be responsible for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $7 million budget through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events and corporate and foundation support. S/he will expand and diversify the CEB’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. It is expected that the amount raised by the CEB will increase in future years as the Director of Development systematically and effectively strengthen the organization’s overall fundraising capacity. RESPONSIBILITIES Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives; Collaborate with other members of the senior leadership team to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include individual, corporate, foundation, government grants, special events, etc.; Contribute to the development of CEB’s strategic goals and objective; Oversee research funding sources and trends to help position the CEB ahead of major funding changes or trends; Monitor all donor information, prove and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders; Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors; Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors; Develop and track proposal and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising; and, Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program. 1 Community Education Building | 1200 N. French Street | Wilmington, Delaware 19801 | (302) 660-4800 | www.cebde.org QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred; 5-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization, demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources); Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated donor relationship over time; Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships; Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives; A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player; to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time; and, Passion for the CEB’s mission and vision.
