Message from the Director
Programs are offered for residents and non-residents, Hempfield Rec Center members and non-members.
“It’s not enough anymore to merely satisfy the customer; customers must be
“delighted”—surprised by having their needs not just met, but exceeded.”
—A. Blanton Godfrey
This quote was used in
my Directors Report
back in 2005 when
Hempfield Rec was
going through a transformation. Today it’s
never been more evident that our members
are the lifeblood of our
organization. Over the past few months,
staff and our board of directors have been
focusing on what is important to fulfilling
our mission by providing a variety of relevant programs and wellness services inclusive to all members of our community.
Quality service and exceeding members’
expectations will be our focus. We do many
things well at Hempfield Rec but we want
to do better and give our participants an
outstanding experience.
In 2015 we will be implementing new
member services as a way to exceed our
members’ expectations and add value to
membership. We will be engaging our
members, making it easier to register for
programs and membership. Enhancing
our software programs will provide us the
opportunity to communicate easily
through e-commerce and keep participants

updated on the latest happenings. We look
forward to serving our most valued asset—
YOU!
Keep in mind as we enter a new year we
remind our members that we have a referral program in place—If you refer a friend
to join Hempfield Rec, you get a free
month added to your membership. This
incentive is in place all year round and
works well for all. You are the best salesperson we have.
On behalf of our staff, board of directors,
and volunteers we wish you a happy holiday and prosperous new year. Thank you
for your continued support.

SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN 12 YEARS OF AGE & UNDER
AND NON-SWIMMERS
This policy is adopted and implemented to ensure the safety of all children who use
the HARC swimming facility.
Children 12 years of age and under must be supervised by a parent/caregiver.
Children must be able to swim 25 meters (one length of the pool) in a confident manner. This means that they are able to swim freestyle with a relatively strong stroke
and with their face in the water. If a child is unable to accomplish this, they must be
accompanied in the water by an adult or caregiver. Testing can be done by any
HARC LIFEGUARD and your child’s name will be added to our swimmer’s book for
future reference for our staff. Please note that HARC lifeguards and other aquatic
staff are not babysitters and are not available nor are they assigned for this function.
PRIVATE SWIMMING LESSONS
Children and adults alike can benefit from swimming lessons given in a one-to-one,
relaxed atmosphere or in a small group of friends. Lessons are available for all ages and
ability levels, both recreational and competitive. Lessons can be tailored to your current
ability level and can be scheduled to accommodate your individual needs and schedule.
For fees and scheduling, call 898-3102, ext. 37.

Swim America
Swim America is a national learn-to-swim program developed by the American
Swimming Coaches Association. Instructors are trained and certified by Swim
America. Fees reflect an instructor-swimmer ratio of one to four or less. Swim
America swim suits are available for purchase.
Pre-School lessons are for children 3–5 years of age. Participants must be potty
trained or wear swim diapers. These lessons are designed to encourage the children
to explore the water and develop bobbing, floating, and kicking skills.
Advanced Pre-School lessons are for children 3–5 years of age who have reached
level 6 and above.
School-Age (K-12) lessons allow the swimmer to progress at his own rate.
Stroke Clinic Saturday & Monday/Wednesday is for swimmers who have
advanced to level 7 or have been on a competitive swim team for at least one year
and are now working on stroke mechanics and endurance. These swimmers are eligible to swim in the Patrick McGrath mini-meet on March 1, 2015.

KUNDALINI YOGA
Kundalini Yoga is a 5,000 year old authentic system of yogic exercise and meditation
that promotes health, happiness, and spiritual awareness. There are three basic
components to Kundalini Yoga. There are
the physical postures that include yoga
stretching and movement which are
referred to as exercise sets. These exercise
sets strengthen and balance the nervous
system, the glandular system and the
circulatory system to promote optimum
physical and emotional health. The
second component is breathing techniques
which supports processing of emotions
and feelings, controlling moods and

QuickStart Stars
Future Stars
(Ages 5–7)
The USTA QuickStart Tennis format works by
getting kids into the game immediately.
Within the first hour of stepping onto the
court, they are actually playing the game,
rallying with one another, moving around
and having fun. We use transition balls that
bounce at a height equal to kids' playing
abilities. This allows for better and longer
rallies and allows them to build all-court
games.
(Ages 7–12)
This clinic is split into three different ability
levels. Beginning on court one we use the
USTA QuickStart format, but the difficulty
level increases and more points are played.
On court two we begin using traditional
balls and work on transitioning to the new
balls and the juniors stroke production. On
court three the players start playing more
points as we begin preparing the juniors to
play matches and eventually, tournaments.

Super Stars
(Ages 12 and older or at pro’s discretion)
The Super Stars Clinic is for juniors who are competing in district and sectional tournaments
as well as competing on high school teams. The focus of this clinic is on tactics, strategy, and
some stroke production. We work to develop a core group of juniors who can compete against
one another as well as travel together to tournaments and other competitive events. This
clinic uses the USTA High Performance format which employs fed ball drills, live ball drills and
point play to maximize each players concept comprehension and performance on the court.
The Hempfield Rec also offers a great opportunity for all juniors to hone their competitive skills
through structured match play. Match play is only offered on select dates for the Super Stars.
