TROOP 226 UPDATE December 22, 2014 WINTER COURT OF HONOR OUR NEXT CAMPS include our annual FATHER - SON CAMP, to be held at Camp Butler over the weekend of January 9-11, and our POLAR BEAR CAMP on Feb 7-8. Father-Son Camp is set up in a flexible manner so those fathers who work odd hours or weekends can share some time with their sons. For those dads who are new to the Troop, this is a great cabin camp with your sons. Please see the enclosed sign-up sheet for this camp. The reservation form must be returned with payments for each participant by Tuesday, Jan 6th. Please mail the form and payment to Mr. Youngstein or bring it to the meeting on Jan 6th. If Scouts do not have a Father or significant male in their household, or if their father is unable to come, they may still attend this camp, but you must let the Scoutmaster know. Our four-week Polar Bear training program will allow almost every Scout to safely enjoy the out-of-doors for this unique backpack-type camp. Each boy will be getting special written information as well. Watch for it!! Once again we are proud to distribute hard earned merit badges, rank advancements, and many special awards to boys at our winter Court of Honor on Sunday afternoon, Feb 15.th at Strongsville United Methodist Church. We are also most pleased to present the Eagle rank, the highest award in Scouting, to veteran Scouts Zach Johnson, Matt Kubulins, Adam Fader, Alden Smith, Mark Bischof, Tim David and JJ Burns at the upcoming ceremony. Our Courts of Honor are geared not only for the many Scouts who are receiving awards, but also for their parents. Newer Scouts and their parents find that attending a Court of Honor helps show them the many things in our Scouting program that they can look forward to. Courts of Honor also help to motivate boys to keep working on Scout advancement. We look forward to seeing all our Scouts and their families at the upcoming Winter/Eagle Court of Honor, Sunday, February 15th. HAVE ANY ADVANCEMENT LEFT? ITEMS OF INTEREST After many years, our Eagle plaques, holding the names of every one of our 130+ Eagle Scouts have been hung in the lower level of the church. Feel free to go downstairs and view some of our history hanging in the hallway. Thanks to the church trustees for their approval! Does your son have just a little bit left to do for a merit badge or a rank advancement? We’d like to see several of our boys - particularly those who are now First Class finish the merit badge or two needed for Star. When vacation time lies heavy on everyone’s hands, encourage your son to finish a Scouting requirement!! A new Scout trailer has been ordered! Our beloved green ‘Troop in a Box’ is being retired from active duty and will be for sale after the new one is outfitted. Our new trailer will assure that all our valuable camping gear is protected and transported safely to our campsites. Once again, we have met the Gold Standard in Boy Scout Troops! In our annual ‘Journey to Excellence’ Troop assessment for the Boy Scouts of America, we have rated at the top level of achievement for the 2014 year. All who come to us can be confident of one of the best Scouting experiences offered anywhere. SOME SPECIAL ACTIVITIES will be taking place during the next few weeks. See meetings marked *** below.
