Magazine:
Fact Sheet
The St. Gallen Symposium Magazine seeks ten European journalism students with excellent
English to report on the St. Gallen Symposium from 3–9 May 2015. Participants will have the
opportunity to write and report 3–5 bylined articles while working with experienced editors
from the United States and Switzerland. Travel costs will be covered and participants will be
housed with students of the University of St. Gallen.
About us
The St. Gallen Symposium (www.symposium.org) brings together about 600 decision-makers from
business, politics, academia and society with 200 outstanding students and young talents from all over
the world. The topic of next year’s 45th St. Gallen Symposium, which will be held from 7–8 May 2015, is
“Proudly Small”. In past years, we have had the honour of welcoming distinguished personalities such
as Dr Paul Achleitner, Deutsche Bank AG, Joseph S. Blatter, FIFA, Christine Lagarde, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Dr Kumi Naidoo, Greenpeace International, and H.E. Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, President
of the Republic of Singapore. The symposium is organised by the International Students’ Committee
(ISC), an independent student initiative at the University of St. Gallen.
Project Details
The Magazine covers the most important aspects, stories and moments of the 45th St. Gallen Symposium: Sessions, interviews with prominent speakers and in-depth reports on discussed issues as
well as behind-the-scenes features on the conference itself. In June, the Magazine will be sent to all
symposium participants.
Over five days, student participants will interview speakers and participants in order to report and
write three to five bylined articles, due during or in the week immediately after the symposium. Experienced journalists from the United States and Switzerland will serve as editors and advisers.
Participants will have the opportunity to interview decision-makers and gain insights into a worldleading conference as well as hands-on experience in magazine production. Over the course of the project, they will also add English-language work samples to their portfolios while networking and making
contacts with journalists and young leaders from around the world.
