The Wenatchee World
Local singer goes global on new album

East Wenatchee musician Troy
Lindsey released his fifth album
this month, a body of work written
and recorded in
Russia, Wenatchee
and Nashville. On
the album, “Cold
Emotion,” Lindsey’s
pared-down,
American roots
sound meets singer
Galina Bosaya’s
bold diva vocals.

It’s a unique combination: soulful
laments about gun violence and
life on the road backed by what
sounds a little like Shakira with a
Russian accent.
Lindsey, the former owner
of Devil’s Gulch Drinkery in
Cashmere, met Bosaya “randomly
on the street” during a vacation
in Moscow a few years ago. The
two played some shows together,

Schultz met in Nashville to polish
between their homelands. “We’re
two cultures that are completely
different in some ways,” Lindsey
said. “Americans walk around
happy and friendly. When you’re
in Russia, people are not waving at
their neighbor on the street. They’re
more reserved and they keep to
themselves.”
The song “Dark Hour” is
Lindsey’s outcry against the recent
spate of school shootings in the U.S.,
and it’s a song he has been tossing
around in some form for years. “I’ll
look back through some of my old
notebooks and I’ll have starts of
that song in different variations,”
Lindsey said. After the shooting at
Marysville Pilchuck High School in
October, Lindsey decided: “That’s it,
I need to finish this up and get this
song out there.”
“Cold Emotion” is a digital-only
release. To watch the video for

warning: the video is extremely
graphic and includes crime scene
images from real school shootings.

contrast to photos of the Twin

“Our country’s valor, they’re

If you like your sweet-voiced
singer/songwriters a little to
the right of center, Jean’s your
gal. But, as she sings in “Wake
Up America”: We never said it
was for everyone.
