Dear Members,
It is that time of year again and I know everyone
is short on time (myself included) so I will make
this note a brief one.
The GCRBA Board of Directors met this week
and I wanted to take a moment to commend our
new Secretary Jo Ann Ballinger for the
outstanding job she is doing as she transitions
in to Mary Ann’s role. None of us really knew how
all encompassing Mary Ann’s role truly was, until it was time to teach her
replacement! A big thanks to Jo Ann as she is doing a fine job.
Looking ahead to January, we are still looking for contestants to participate in the
decorating competition. I would ask you to encourage a decorator or two from your
shop to participate and earn a chance to compete on a National level.
Last, I want to wish all of our members a very Merry Christmas with record sales in all
of your stores. I look forward to a prosperous 2015 with each of you.
Best regards,
Brian T. Busken

WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD
TO IN JANUARY!
Members and friends of GCRBA have looked forward to something special in January.
This year there will not be a “Winter Workshop” but we do have something special
planned for you. It will happen on Wednesday, January 7th, beginning at 9 AM and
held at the Midwest Culinary Institute, The event will begin with two decorating
contest, one for the decorators who want to compete for the opportunity to go to
Chicago in March for the Grand Champion RBA/ Pillsbury contest. And the second for
the culinary students who want practice in competing in decorating.
You will have an opportunity to see lots of decorated cakes, Wedding cakes, Fondant

Our usual GCRBA Business meeting and reports on the Gingerbread Kids Promotion,

announcement of the three winners of the affiliated contest, one to represent GCRBA, one to represent OBA, and one runner
up, should either of the winners not be able to participate in the National Contest. This will all be topped off by the usual
wonderful dinner prepared by the Chefs at MCI, and all this for the unbelievable cost of $20.00. a time of associating with
other bakers. look for further information on this event from your supplier, Mark the date January 7th, you can’t pass up this
opportunity to make this January special..
BAKEMARK
Bakemark had a huge display of holiday baking ideas. Andrew Johnston
from Bakemark and Ron Smith from CSM explained what they baked
and had hand outs with formulas. There were variations of
pumpkin pie and pecan pies. Lots of small loafs and slices of
flavored crème cake and muffin batters. There were donut
ideas for the fall season and some for the Christmas season
as well. Everyone was able to take samples home.
Bakemark raffeled off aprons for door prizes and we had a
BIG split the pot to raffle off. Dinner was chicken & ribs
which was delicious.
A Note from Mary Ann
Just a note to say Thank You for all you did to make my retirement memorable. You
sure do know how to throw a party. I am glad you got a few days to rest up. Everything
was wonderful, the flowers are beautiful, you know a good florist. The clock is just the
thing I can look up at it and think of all the wonderful years and great friends like you.
Can’t thank you enough,
Mary Ann
