Dr. R.J. Krupadam gets "2014-15
Fulbright-Nehru Academic &
Professional Excellence
Fellowship"
Dr. R.J. Krupadam, Sr. Scientist, Environmental Impact & Risk
Assessment Division, CSIR-NEERI has been awarded the prestigious
‘2014-15
Fulbright-Nehru
Academic
and
Professional
Excellence
Fellowship’ in the field of "Environment" by United States India Education
Foundation. Accordingly, Dr. Krupadam will work on "Environmental
Sustainable Options for Hydrocarbon Development Operations - Probing
PAHs Emissions and Their Distribution in Aquatic Systems" at Case
Western Reserve University (CWRU), Cleveland Ohio, United States for a
duration of 6 months.
During the fellowship period, Dr. Krupadam would target on developing
a new, simple and accurate pollution tracking method for monitoring of
dispersion and fate of pollutants originating from hydrocarbon industry.
The molecule-specific, cost-effective and environmentally acceptable
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) tracers will be prepared using
molecular imprinting approach and these imprinted polymer tracers will
be utilized for tracking pollutants pathways in aquatic system. The
tracers have a potential for source apportionment studies and also
identification of vulnerable trophic levels of aquatic ecosystem for the
PAHs contamination. The proposed tracking method will simplify the
environmental impact assessment and source apportionment studies.
