1)
All students must meet with an advisor in order
for their advisement hold to be removed to register for
classes. Please review Advisement Philosophy and Outcomes (attached to e-mail).
2)
Advisement will take place starting Monday
October 20th and running through Monday, November
3rd.! The largest amount of appointments will be the 1st
and 2nd week. The earlier you sign-up for a time, the
earlier you will be able to register. Make-up sessions
will be available during the last week of advisement for
any student who missed, was late, or was unable to attend a scheduled appointment.
3)
Advisement appointments will be held in group
sessions of a maximum of 10 students and last one hour
at the minimum (some may last longer).
4)
The group advisement schedule is listed to the
right of this column. All students must sign up for a time
to be advised outside of room 242, in University Hall.
As you can see from the list, sessions are broken out by
specific program.
5) Students need to prepare for their session (see
checklist for advisement on the 2nd page of this
sheet for instructions concerning how to prepare).
6) Please let me know if I can help!

How To Register for Classes
Students who are currently enrolled or have been
enrolled within the last three terms are invited to register
during advanced registration (Monday Oct. 27th
through Friday, Nov. 7th). Students who have not
attended within the last three terms will be required to
submit a readmit application to the Admissions Office.
Returning students who have been readmitted to the
university also have the option to register during this
registration period.
How To Register for Classes In Ship
1) Make sure you know your Student ID and Pin. If you
do not know your pin go to the SHIP main page. Click
on Lookup ID and complete the bottom portion of the
form displayed. Your student ID will be displayed on
the screen.
2) Log into SHIP, register for classes on the designated
date and time. Print schedule and bill before logging out
of SHIP.
3) Follow fee payment instructions and pay by fee
payment deadline. Students can pay through SHIP.
Students who do not pay by the scheduled fee payment
deadlines will be dropped from all courses.
How Do I Get Advised if I
Have Applied for Candidacy?
Students who plan to submit a candidacy
application for spring 2015, should sign-up
on Allison’s office door, Rm. 242. You will
be advised October 13th and 14th,
separate from the group process.
Some Things to Keep in Mind When
Designing A Spring 2015 Schedule
-Students wanting to graduate in 4 years
must be taking 15-16 credits a semester.
Not doing so will delay your graduation
unless you plan to take summer classes.
-Our education programs do not usually have any
on-line courses at the undergraduate level.
-Middle Grade students must pick two content areas
(English, History, Science or Math). It is important
to identify these contents early so you are taking
appropriate classes (see helpful hints for specific
classes).
-Students should be aiming to apply for candidacy
(Admission to the College) after the completion of
at least 60 hours and area F, if possible.
-Students need to take 2 (3 credit) courses in Area B
unless you take two lab sciences in Area D.
Check List for How to Prepare
for Your
Advisement Appointment
1) Sign up for an advisement appointment
time outside of Room 242 by Friday October 17, 2014. PLEASE WRITE DOWN THE TIME AND LOCATION YOU SIGNED UP FOR!
2) Print out Permanent Record from SHIP and place classes
taken on CORE sheet for specific program of study (go to
http://www.armstrong.edu/Education/coe_deans_office/
coe_deans_office_advisement_registration to print a copy; if
you are unable to pull up the document, you can pick up a
copy from UH 242). Review Helpful Hints for your major as
all majors have courses in the CORE that are suggested.
3) Write down classes you plan to take for spring 2015. Keep
in mind if you plan to take classes during the summer.
4) Go to the undergraduate catalog (which can be accessed
from the COE website Advisement page) to read the course
descriptions for the classes you plan to take to get an understanding of what they are actually about.
5) Arrive on time to your scheduled appointment and turn off
your cell phone to give Allison your full attention. If you are
late or miss your scheduled appointment, you will be required
to sign-up for a make-up session.
6) Bring a pen or a pencil to your appointment!
7) Write down and come prepared to discuss any questions you
may have.
8) After your advisement appointment, register for classes on
your designated day and time avail able in SHIP. Make sure to
check SHIP for any holds that you may have that might prevent you from registering (i.e. Parking ticket, Library hold,
etc).
If you have any questions about or during the
registration process, please contact Allison. It is much
easier to reach me via e-mail during the actual Registration process than via phone as I will be checking
my e-mail from home after hours. After advisement,
I am happy to meet individually with students who
still have questions!
