Terms and Conditions for reserving accommodation with DUWO Accommodate.
VU University Amsterdam rents over 600 rooms and apartments from DUWO for their
international visitors. This reserved accommodation is only available for international master en
bachelor students, who enrol in an international degree programme and exchange students
who are not yet living in the Netherlands. It is not available for international students following
courses in the Dutch language, or for Dutch students enrolling in international degree
programmes
If you have received the Confirmation of Accommodation mail from VU University Amsterdam
and you are invited to make a reservation yourself in the system of DUWO, it is important that
you register as soon as possible. The system is based on the ‘first come, first served’ principle.
The general conditions as stated below are made in accordance with VU University Amsterdam.
After completing your registration, the International Office of VU University Amsterdam will
have to approve your request for accommodation.
After the University had checked your request for accommodation, you will receive an e-mail
from DUWO. If your request is approved, you can make a reservation in the system. If your
request is denied, you will be informed about this.
Note: The period of your request must be done according the information in “How to apply”. If
you arrive in the weekend, after office hours or on a holiday you will have to book a hotel or
hostel by yourself at your own expense.
Accommodation is provided for the duration of the entire period you applied for; there is
therefore no right of early termination of the lease.
By signing the tenancy agreement you agree to pay the monthly rent for the period stated in
the tenancy agreement. Terminating the tenancy agreement before its expiry date is not
possible. Late arrival and early departure is possible, but they will not effect payment
obligations.

Note that even though the system will allow you to enter different dates than the ones above,
your application will NOT be approved by the VU. If you do not comply with the dates
mentioned above!
A reservation can only be made once. If you cancel your room reservation we will not re-submit
your name for (student) housing.

not always possible to offer the requested housing. Please be aware that we have a limited
amount of each type of accommodation.

Cancellation after commencement of the rental period is not permitted.
It is not possible to visit rooms in advance because the rooms are occupied till August or
February.
Before arrival you will have to pay the first months rent and last two months rent and an
administration fee of 150 Euro.
Without a full payment DUWO will not submit keys.
Please not that the administration fee paid to DUWO is entirely separate from the fee required
by VU University Amsterdam.
Rent: The rent price consists of a sum every month for the use of the accommodation and a
price every month for the goods and services supplied.
If you cause any damage to the property or inventory, Stichting DUWO will charge you for this.
Accommodation is provided for the duration requested and agreed with VU University
Amsterdam.
The first day of the rental contract is always the 1st or the 16th of the month. The last day of the
rental contract is always the 15th or the last day of the month.
Although we take your preference into account, we reserve the right to allocate you to another
room. In most cases this will be room of the same type you have selected. It is unfortunately
not always possible to offer the requested housing. Please be aware that we have a limited
amount of each type of accommodation.
Cancellation must be send by e-mail to the contact person at the faculty of VU University
Amsterdam.
If you wish to cancel the reservation prior to your arrival, you must do so in writing. You should
send your written cancellation notice to your contact at the faculty, bearing in mind that there
is a
If your reservation is cancelled less than two months before the starting date, the invoice will
be sent to the faculty. The faculty will then reclaim the sum (i.e. one period of payment) from
you.
If you wish to terminate the rental agreement, you should send in a written cancellation notice
to VU University Amsterdam and DUWO for that purpose. The completed form must be
submitted to the housing association and your faculty contact person, at least one full calendar
month prior to the date on which you will be vacating the housing accommodation.
