DAILY BEGINNING April 28, 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All registration will be held at the Parks and Recreation office at 405
Fremont Street. Register online with Xpressrec.com. Online
registration will open Monday, April 28th at 7:00 a.m.
IMPORTANT NOTICES
PARKS & RECREATION POLICY– It is the policy of the city of
Lander Parks and Recreation Department to partially waive
tuition fees for children who are unable to pay the full fee for
participation in city parks and recreation programs. To be eligible, the family must earn an income below the level set and
submit an affidavit stating and verifying their income. All applications for reduced fees expire and need to be refilled before
April 1.
In order to participate in any Parks and Recreation program,
participants must first be registered, and either pay the required fee, or obtain a waiver through filing of the appropriate
documents and pay the partial fee. Please note that waiver
spaces are limited in some programs.
***ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THE CITY OF
LANDER DOES NOT CARRY INSURANCE FOR INJURY TO PARTICIPANTS OF PROGRAMS. PARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO
CARRY HEALTH INSURANCE OF THEIR OWN.
PAYMENT
You must pay for the classes or activities at the time of registration unless other wise stated in the brochure. We no longer
accept personal checks for deposits, user fees, or Parks programs. We will gladly accept cash, debit, credit, and business
checks . All activities are on a first come basis. (Fee listed covers the entire activity period.)
CANCELLATION
The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to
cancel any class or activity due to insufficient registration, lack
of facilities or lack of instructor/supervisors. A full refund will
be given for canceled class or activity.
REFUND
No refunds will be given for any reason other than cancellation
of a class or activity. If you withdraw before activity starts,
credit toward another Parks and Recreation activity will be
given. This credit will be applicable for one full year.

BASKETBALL **
This program is for both boys and girls and will include lots of
skills, drills and games. Lower baskets will be used for the
younger age group.
FARM LEAGUE T BALL BASEBALL **
This league is for boys and girls 5 to 7 years of age. This program is designed to teach the fundamental skills of baseball
and will help them if they continue playing the game. Children
must supply their own glove. A T-shirt will be issued at the
first practice. Practices will be held at City Park or Northside
Park, with all games to be played at City Park.

3 vs 3 open gym basketball **
SINKS CANYON CAMP **
This program will emphasize the skills that were learned during the Jr Tiger Basketball program. Players will randomly be
assigned to a different team each week for games. Small baskets will be used for the younger ages. The ultimate goal is to
practice skills and have fun!
Come and spend an adventure packed week at camp. You will
have an opportunity to pan for gold, use a map and compass,
follow tracks, use a bow and arrow, sing songs around the
campfire, learn more about nature, sleep overnight in a tepee
and much more! Our base camp is the Warming House in
Sinks Canyon.

Come hang out with us and learn some outdoor skills in Sinks
Canyon and the Wind River Range. Learn to cook on a camp
stove, set up a tent, use a map and compass, start a fire, learn
Leave No Trace principles, leadership, outdoor photography,
rock climbing, rappelling, hiking and fly fishing. We will backpack in to the Wind River Range and camp Thursday night! Kids
over 14 will need to purchase a fishing permit.

MOUNTAIN BIKING Technique,
Safety and Maintenance **
This course concentrates on riding skills. Self-confidence
makes you a better and safer rider. Understanding your bike
and all its operations also makes you a more efficient rider
which is the most relaxing and fun way to ride. There will be

Jim Donahue is offering a two course summer mountain
bike riding class. These classes are open to kids any age
and ability level. Kids need to be comfortable riding a two
wheel bike. All classes will be at the dirt bike park by the
high school. Bring your bike, helmet, and plenty of water.
Course 1 will introduce basic free riding skills. Learn how
to transition, balance, and control speed, and getting comfortable riding at the bike park. Course 2 will teach basic
tricks and how to do jumps safely. Two weeks will be offered this summer. All classes require 4 student minimum

DOVE REAL BEAUTY WORKSHOP FOR
GIRLS**
Every day in the media we are bombarded by false, airbrushed
images of “beauty”. The Dove Real Beauty Workshop is for
girls ages 8 to 12. Participation in this workshop will help encourage young girls and women everywhere to embrace a
more positive image of themselves, both inside and out. The
interactive workshop will be fun and educational. Girls can
bring a female mentor, (mother, relative, or friend) or just
come and share in the healthy dialogue on beauty, self image,
and self-esteem with multigenerational women from our community.

SHAKESPEARE SUMMER THEATER
ACADEMY
Wyoming Shakespeare Festival Company opens it’s program to
students ages 7-14 to participate in the Summer Academy
from June 30th to July 24th. Monday thru Thursday 8:30-12:30
in the Auxiliary gym at Lander Valley High School. Public performances of the students work will take place Wednesday,
July 23rd and Noon, July 24th in Lander City Park. This year

historical drama, Julius Caesar. Students will explore the energy of the language combined with battles, conspiracy, questions of effective leadership and the treatment of foes. Tuition

MAW CHILDRENS SUMMER ACTIVITIES
The Museum of the American West, 1445 Main Street, will
offer four one week session summer programs this year. Classes will be patterned after an 1880’s school day. Children will
wear period clothing and will attend classes in reading, recitation, penmanship, arithmetic, and science. They will learn
crafts and games of the day and eat snacks that were common

Design Squad Challenges-Rubber Band
Car & Hidden Alarm-Session I
Build a car that goes really far, really fast! Oh, by the way, your
power source is a rubber band and your car can only have two
whets! Then, there’s a chance for a little mischief-just a little.
Design an alarm that you can turn on and off and is small
enough to hide. You’ll use the engineering design process to
identify a problem, brainstorm, design, build, test, and evaluate, share your solution, and redesign some cool projects.
This program is conducted in cooperation with the Grand Theatre. There will be 8 movies shown throughout the summer
beginning June and running through August .Movies will be
held every Wed. and Thurs. at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The

Rube Goldberg Inventions
Let your creativity flow as you draw, create, and construct inventions in the style of Rube Goldberg and maybe learn a little
simple physics along the way. Students will develop their creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills as they learn about
Goldberg’s art, inventions, and how we came to know about
him. They will apply simple physics concepts such as gravity
and simple machines as they construct their own inventions.

Car & Hidden Alarm-Session II
Build a car that goes really far, really fast! Oh, by the way, your
power source is a rubber band and your car can only have two
whets! Then, there’s a chance for a little mischief-just a little.
Design an alarm that you can turn on and off and is small
enough to hide. You’ll use the engineering design process to
identify a problem, brainstorm, design, build, test, and evaluate, share your solution, and redesign some cool projects.

Butterfly blitz
The Nature Conservancy and the Lander Arts Center team up
for a week exploring the beauty and wonder of butterflies. A
kaleidoscope of color greets students as they learn symmetry

whole family is encouraged to take part in the TNC’s 7th Annual Butterfly Count.

The 2014 Riverfest will be held, Saturday, August 16. We will
be located in the Lander City Park from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00
p.m. This annual event features many local and traveling artists from Wyoming, offering over 35 booths of fine crafts and
artwork. Entertainment throughout the event will feature our
local musicians, an open stage, and many youth musicians
providing their talent. This is a wonderful event for the family.

FREMONT AREA ROAD TOUR
Hot Notes, Cool Nites band, directed by Steve Traylor of CWC,

The Fremont Area Road Tour is a recreational road cycling
event with routes from 10-100 miles around the Lander Valley.

Wyoming Shakespeare Festival Company presents two programs every Tuesday in July at 6:00 p.m. in City Park. Celebrating their 15th year, Marty Stuart by Friedrich Schiller will
perform July 1,15,and 29. After seeing it, you can argue all you
like, as historians and theologians have for centuries, about
whether Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth has the greater claim
to the English throne. They both rule. Anton in Show Business
by Jane Martin will perform July 8 and 22. In a nutshell, it’s
about the state of theater today particularly in the hinterlands
of America. It is multi-faceted with differing political points of

John’s expertise and television documentaries have gained him
worldwide recognition. Come and find out which plants were
important both as food and for medicinal use to the native
inhabitants of this area. This course is a mix of botany, history,
and chemistry with slides and hands-on plant identification.
Students will study plants in the Sinks Canyon area. Bring a
lunch and water. The class will meet at Bruce’s parking area in

LADIES MOUNTAIN BIKING
Just in time for perfect early summer riding! If you are a road
rider or a beginner mountain biker who seeks the thrill and
skill of local single track Mountain Biking this class is for you.
We will focus on increasing your confidence, learning more
techniques and the skills to bring you to that next level. “Single
Track Riding”, risk management, local single track routes,
clothing/equipment that ladies have the physical ability to ride
distances up to 10 miles of uphill/downhill single track during
one session. Must be 16 years of age or older. Please come to
class prepared to ride with your bike (bike rentals available for
an additional charge), padded bike shorts/pants, bike gloves,
helmet, sunglasses, camelback or water bottle and snacks, and
appropriate shoes. Depending on the day, you may need a
wind jacket and additional layers. Class instructor is Stacy
Wells and the class will meet behind the Bike Mill.
This workshop is dedicated to Fiber Preparation for hand spinning. Wool will be the primary fiber of focus but others will be
discussed. The class will be very hands-on so wear appropriate
clothing. We will skirt, wash, card and/or comb fleeces, then
spin. By the end of the workshop one should be able to have a
basic idea of the steps involved in preparing a fleece for Handspinning. Supplies: If you have any combs, spinning wheel,
drop spindle that you want to use please bring them along!

The annual Lander Half Marathon & 5K held on July 4, is a 13.1
mile race for runners and walkers. The course follows scenic
Baldwin Creek-Squaw Creek loop road, beginning and ending
at Centennial Park on Main Street. The event includes entertainment, breakfast, and prizes and followed by Lander’s famous July 4th Parade.

WILD IRIS MOUNTAIN RUN
The Wild Iris Mountain Run offers a 5k, 10k, or a 21k trail run.
All three distances offer challenging terrain. The race takes off
from the climbers’ parking lot at Wild Iris off of Limestone
Mountain Road. Race date is Saturday, July 12th. 21k starts at
7:00 a.m. and the 5k and 10k start at 7:30 a.m. Registration

The hikes are not normally conducted within the city limits but
instead are located within a fifteen mile radius of City Park.
The hikes are generally moderate in difficulty and last about 2
1/2 to 3 hours. All capable hikers are welcome to meet at 9:00
a.m. on Wednesdays at the Parks and Recreation Office, 405
Fremont Street. The city hikes season is from mid April until
mid May for a period of 5 weeks. Transportation will be availa-

ble in a Parks & Rec vehicle for up to seven participants; carpooling is an option depending on the size of the group. Please
come prepared with comfortable hiking attire, a small daypack
with water bottle and a snack for our mid-hike scenic break.
Rainy mornings have resulted in cancellations but please call
the Parks office at 332-4647 if in doubt. Future consideration
may include in town pavement hikes, such as a walk to the Life
Resource Center, during days of ample mud or snow.

ADULT TENNIS LEAGUES **
Adult beginner and intermediate tennis leagues will be put
together in May and matches will begin in June. There will be a
Tuesday evening league and a 7:00 a.m. morning league. Cost

COWBOY STATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Cowboy state baseball league is an adult baseball league. We
have tournaments in May, June, and August. Pick up games are

ULTIMATE FRISBEE
Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport. Pick up games will be
played throughout the summer at the times listed below. The
idea of the game is to get the Frisbee from one end of the field
to the other end. Teams consist of seven players. Rules will be
explained and players will be divided up into teams at the start
of play.

SWIM POOL WEIGHTS
The Swim Pool has a universal weight machine and a swim
bench for use by the public during recreation and lap swim.
Please see enclosed swim schedule for times. A yearly pass can
be purchased or a daily admission paid.
ADULT WATER EXERCISE CLASS
This class uses the resistance of the water to tone muscles and
moderately raises the heart rate. The low impact exercise
helps with strength, circulation, and overall health. This class is
great for people with joint problems. Classes are Monday.

Punch cards are available for a 50 punch card for $75.00 and a
25 punch card for $37.50.
WATER AEROBICS
This class uses water resistance and other equipment. It is
geared toward people who want muscle tone and a rise in
heart rate. In comparison to the adult exercise it is a more intense class. Classes are Monday and Friday at 12:00 noon to
1:00 p.m. Cost is $2.00 per class. Punch passes are available.
LANDER BASEBALL ASSOCIATION
The Lander Baseball Association is a parent run program who organizes
leagues for Rookies(7-8), Minors (9-10), Majors (11-12), Jr Babe Ruth (1315), and Legion (16-19) Baseball. For more information contact Chuck

GIRLS SOFTBALL
This program is run by the Lander Girls Fast Pitch Softball Association, has
three age divisions and is for girls of all skill levels ages 6 to 18 years. The
2014 season runs from May 26-July 18(4th of July week off), with games
held on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings to accommodate working parents and coaches. The league follows ASA (Amateur Softball Association)
rules and works to teach fundamentals, strategy, and sportsmanship in

The Lander Adult Softball Association schedules adult league slow pitch
softball games, including a season ending tournament in June, July, and

LANDER DEFENCE
Personal Protection and Defense of Others. Adult training applies ancient
methods to the present, in essence, constantly molding it to fit the “now”
to keep it relevant and usable. Beginners and advanced students train
together in a cooperative environment. Youth classes teach personal
defense through fun and games. Classes available for ages 4 years
through adult. Fee is $10 per session and classes run from April through

Judo (meaning “gentle way”) is a modern martial art and Olympic sport

almost any size group. The City Park Gazebo and Dillon Park Gazebo have
covered picnic facilities only. All are on a reservation basis only. A refundable damage and cleanup deposit must be made at least one week prior

LANDER URBAN FOREST COUNCIL
The Lander Urban Forest Council designed, developed, and published a
brochure entitled “Trees and Shrubs of Lander, Wyoming” as a service to
the public. This 63 page, full color publication highlights trees and shrubs
that are growing in the Lander area and the locations of the plants. It also
contains several tips and suggestions on how to plant new trees and
pruning techniques. This outstanding publication is free to the public and
