25 years of Galerie Sofie Lachaert
We celebrate our silver anniversary with the outstanding exhibition ‘not just a bowl of
cherries’. No less than 40 artists were inspired by this allusion to this phrase.
The bowl as both an object and as a symbol lies at the core of this exhibition.
Some pieces are an expression of respect for the bowl as a universal, ancient archetype
in everyday life, used to prepare, serve, conserve and store food, while others reflect
a philosophical approach; a gesture of beauty and interaction, presenting something
precious…
Sometimes the bowl is full to abundance, its load of rich, ripe cherries and fleshy
peaches a metaphor for a lustful life. However, when the bowl remains empty, the
content is questioned and only a suggestive gesture remains; the imaginary bowl held
respectfully in both hands.

Gallery Sofie Lachaert: introspective research in the fields of contemporary design, art and craft.
Objects as art. Art as object. Questioning function and representation, thoughtfully chosen objects
communicate with space, interiors and the human body.
The gallery is an important platform for designers who freely cross
the borders between applied and
visual art, offering visitors an overall picture of work by prominent
designers from all over the world and from a vast range of disciplines.
For each exhibition, a unique presentation is developed. Each artist,
each theme is complemented by its own atmosphere and world.
Thus, every visit to the gallery is worthwhile, attracting both firsttime guests and regular visitors by the quality, daring choices, and
interesting themes of the presented work.
The gallery is situated in a unique setting that also combines work,
living, and hospitality, and its themes spread into the different
spaces, functions, and programmes around it.
