Position Statement Mission and Values of Organisation DIRECTIONS is a non-profit organisation offering a range of health interventions, services and programs aimed at maximising the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities affected by Alcohol and Other Drug related harm. All services operate within a framework of harm minimisation and aim to minimise drug related harm and to promote self-respect and dignity to all. Position Title Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Support Worker, Program/Service Arcadia House/Needle Syringe Program (NSP)/Reception/Groups Immediate Supervisor Program Manager/Coordinator Employment Status Casual Current Classification Client Services Employee (CSE) Level 1.1 Position Overview To provide Casual AOD worker support across all Directions programs including the Needle Syringe Program (NSP), Arcadia House, Groups and Reception as required. A two week paid Buddy Shift Program will be provided to the successful applicant. Responsibilities and Duties Provide AOD Worker support to Arcadia House residential service, including assisting with the Arcadia House program and undertaking duties such as client liaison, administration duties and housekeeping duties commensurate with the position. Actively engage with clients to provide information and referrals. Provide reception/admin duties within Directions including: answering phones, filing, photocopying and faxing, booking appointments, providing referrals and information. Provide support and assistance to the Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) in both locations, including dissemination of free injecting equipment, resources and information. Actively engage with clients to provide information and referrals Attend to any reporting requirements including statistical entry. Undertake training as required by the organisation. Willingness to work with clients who may present with dual diagnosis/mental health issues. Compliance/Risk Management Takes responsibility to work in accordance with health and safety guidelines and follow the Policy & Procedures of the organisation. Staff Development and Team Work Engage in evaluation of own performance with the HR Coordinator through the Professional Development and Supervision (PDS) process. Participate in staff meetings. PD Casual AOD Support Worker Page 1 of 2 Selection Criteria (essential knowledge, skills & experience) 1. Demonstrated experience and/or qualifications in Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD), Cert IV or Diploma, Mental Health or other related fields (or working towards completion of these qualifications) 2. Has the ability to effectively engage with people from marginalised backgrounds, demonstrating a commitment to work with substance affected people in a nonjudgmental manner with courtesy and respect 3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with a proactive and hands-on attitude. 4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimum supervision in a small flexible team environment, and a willingness to work shift work as required at Arcadia House. 5. Reliable, punctual and mature attitude to work. 6. Demonstrated understanding of the issues around alcohol and drug use experienced by the person, family and the community including dual diagnosis/mental health 7. Has an understanding of the principles of harm minimisation and Therapeutic communities 8. Demonstrated IT skills to enable maintaining and updating of record keeping processes Other requirements 9. Has a commitment to the mission and values of the organisation 10. Has a current Senior First Aid Certificate 11. Current and satisfactory Working With Vulnerable People registration.
