ASBESTOS TESTING AT ARL
ARL can offer testing for asbestos.
ASBESTOS SAMPLING
The instructions below should be considered the minimum precautions you should take when sampling
material suspected of containing asbestos. The wearing of a P1 mask is recommended for fibrous samples.
 Dampen or wet the material.
 Use pliers (non serrated), with the inside edges protected with a wet-wipe to break off a small
thumbnail sized sample.
 Place the sample (and the baby wipe) into a sealable polythene bag - such as a sandwich bag.
 Place the bagged sample inside another sealable bag.
 Attach a label to the bag identifying the sample type (ceiling tile, fire board, etc) and your name
and address.
 Seal the area of the sampled material with duct tape, paint or PVC Glue to minimise fibre release.
 Clean any tools used with water

One Sample - $110
More then one sample - $66 per sample
All prices are per sample, inclusive of GST. Payment can only be made by cash/cheque in person at ARL or
by electronic funds transfer (EFT) through your bank. Sorry no EFTPOS facilities are available
RESULTS
Once we receive the sample at ARL, it will take approximately 2-5 days for you to get the results. The
Report will not be released until full payment has been received.
ARL can only offer analytical testing of your asbestos samples. We cannot make any recommendations or
give advice on the health effects of the results obtained. For information regarding asbestos and the
possible health effects, please contact the Department of Health on 9388 4999 or your local government
environmental health advisor.
