Construction update o Still waiting for key to water room – this has been put on the Joint Health Safety Committee and forwarded to Shawn Tracey. o Question asked: Would this be a fire hazard? o The fire department now has a key (master key for every classroom and a key to assess the water sprinkler room) We have hired our last EA o Serena Beach (coming from New Maryland, working in several classrooms – great addition to our school. o Summerhill has 6 full time EA’s) Harvey Studios o Picture retakes-‐Oct 29 (starting in the morning and we also have our awards ceremony starting at 9:00) Magazine Campaign ended o Items on wish list whiteboards/1 stereos/5 long sound cords for FM system. o We are still waiting to know what the percentage of sales for our school will be Parent teacher interviews o Afternoon of Nov. 10 (1:00pm to 4:00pm) and Evening Nov 10(5:00pm to 7:00pm) o Teachers are adding in other evenings and times but will be in contact with parents Safe Plan with RCMP o Mme. Parks reviewed the plan with our RCMP Liaison officer – we did our whole school procedure and the students did very well. Safe schools week –Sept 30 –Oct 4th o Fire drill, secure the building, school evacuation, bus evacuation went very well. o Concern: Gymnasium is very loud-‐ cannot hear announcements. Our gymnasium is very loud with the fans. o This is a concern for safety procedures within our school. Mrs. Warren has brought her concern to Mme. Parks – trying to locate the exhaust fans. Maybe turn on the fan earlier and allow time for the system to stabilize. o The system appears quite dirty and there could be issues around health (ventilation). •

Ish Book with drawings o Mme. Parks has been around to all the classrooms and students have been asked to draw a picture to showcase “ish” at Summerhill. Mme. Parks will try to schedule time to get into classrooms to get to know our students. Spookarama-‐ Oct 30th at 6:00pm – 7:30pm o Teachers have organized their stations. Families pay $5 for the evening. French Immersion Literacy Support-‐ o Marie-‐Jose Vincent – very dynamic she works with small groups as well as in FI classrooms. Library update o We are still waiting for new librarian – the position has gone out and the competition has been closed. The job gets advertised in AESOP as a supply day and it hasn’t been picked up this week. School Spirit o Class pumpkin decoration – all classes have taken part in this event. Students are looking forward to the Great pumpkin smash on Friday morning. Students will be selected to smash their class pumpkin in the gym just prior to recess. This is our last week for our “choice” based clusters. o We start differentiated clusters for the next round. Each grade level picks a subject area to teach at the team level based on curricular outcomes. We will sell cookie dough in January! Students will be selling cookie dough as a fundraiser for our school. Mrs. Kerr is going to ask her church and her work place to make donations to our school breakfast program. The question was raised do we need to get Public Health notification? Some schools ask grade levels to send in donations…we might put it out there as a school. Families could choose at their discretion – we could post in the monthly newsletter. We do now have eggs at our school. Mr. Rinehart asked the question “can the school accept cash donations?” Mrs. Warren brought apples in for Team 4. There seems to be a need for the breakfast program in most town schools. Maybe we could contact Sobeys and see what they can help us with? Positive Learning Environment Plan – Ms. Durant distributed the plan for PSSC members to review. We will be having different assemblies to promote our PLEP plan. We want our students to be able to explain our plan/mission statement – something meaningful for students. •

running for 2 weeks. o
o
Do we have a list of names of volunteers? Have parents responded? The list only went to parent volunteers because of Policy 701. Parents need to have completed paper work. Christmas Store-‐ Dec. 2, 3 and 4th o
The store will be set up in the Fine Arts room and students can shop. This activity is a great learning experience for students – it teaches many lessons. Parent Ideas/other: •

Possibly obtaining new fridge? The other fridges belong to Geary. Our milk fridge doesn’t seem to be keeping our food cold. Mrs. Jackson has to manually adjust the temp. This is a concern for health safety issues. Can we have a fridge technician come in? We don’t have a food fridge and our milk fridge is full each week. The fridge needs to be assessed and this needs to addressed for food safety. Question was asked “has a work order been sent in?” Someone from district has already come in to look at the fridge. Ms. Durant will mention to Mme. Parks and they will have a problem solving meeting. This would have to be contracted out by district. Another work order has to be sent in. The need for a privacy strip for the Teacher washroom for teacher’s so they can use the washroom. It has not been replaced since the re-‐build of the girl’s washroom. There is also a concern about the sinks not functioning properly. This will be recorded by the Joint Health and Safety committee on their monthly report. Re: last year: Ventilation report came back clean. Everything visible was cleared but not sure if inside of ventilation has been adequately cleaned. Issues raised by exhaust fans in gym. Air quality tests were completed while construction was still ongoing in the gym. Paperwork was sent by Mr McTimoney at the beginning of 2013-‐2014 school year confirming air quality was acceptable. Facilities will be notified of the fan/noise level issue in the gym again as Constable Black will send in the referral to David McTimoney Chris suggested the school should also notify Fire Division Chief Johnson about the issue so he is also aware of the issue. Next meeting, requested to discuss outstanding Items: -‐Privacy strip -‐Milk fridge Meeting Adjourned: 6:45 Preparation of minutes: Sheila Morgan-‐Paul
