THE ʿAQIDAH OF
SHAYKH ʿALĪ BIN ABŪ BAKR AL-SAKRĀN (D. 895/1490)
Ashhadu an lā ilāha illā Allāh waḥdahu lā sharīk lah, wa
ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh. Āmantu
billāhi, wa malāʾikatihi, wa kutubihi, wa rusulihi, wa al-yawm
il-ākhiri, wa bil qadari khayrihi wa sharrih. Ṣadaqa Allāhu wa
ṣadaqa rasūluh. Ṣadaqa Allāhu wa ṣadaqa rusuluh. Āmantu bil
sharīʿah, wa ṣaddaqtu bil sharīʿah, wa in kuntu qultu shayʾan
khilāfa al-ijmāʿi rajaʿtu ʿanh. Tabarraʾtu min kulli dīnin
khālafa dīn al-Islām.
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, One without partner; and I bear
witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. I believe in Allah, His
Angels, His Scriptures, His Messengers, the Last Day, and the Divine Decree—
its good and evil. What Allah has said is true, and what His Messenger has said is
true. What Allah has said is true, and what His messengers have said is true. I
َ ‫ﴍ‬
‫ َوأَ ْﺷﻬ َُﺪ‬،ُ‫ﻳﻚ ﻟَـﻪ‬
ِ َ ‫أَ ْﺷﻬ َُﺪ أَ ْن َﻻ إﻟ ٰـﻪ ّإﻻ ٱ ُ َو ْﺣ َﺪ ُﻩ َﻻ‬
،‫ َو َﻣ َﻼﺋِـ َﻜ ِﺘ ِﻪ‬،ِ ‫ آ َﻣﻨْ ُﺖ ِاب‬،ُ‫أَ َّن ُﻣ َﺤ َّﻤـﺪاً َﻋ ْﺒ ُﺪ ُﻩ َو َر ُﺳﻮﻟُـﻪ‬
‫ َو ِابﻟْﻘَ َﺪ ِر ﺧ ْ َِﲑ ِﻩ‬،‫ َوٱﻟْ َﻴ ْﻮ ِم ٱﻵ ِﺧـ ِﺮ‬،‫ َو ُر ُﺳ ِﻠـ ِﻪ‬،‫َو ُﻛـ ُﺘﺒِـ ِﻪ‬
،ُ ‫ َﺻ َﺪ َق ٱ‬،ُ‫ َو َﺻ َﺪ َق َر ُﺳﻮﻟُـﻪ‬،ُ ‫ َﺻ َﺪ َق ٱ‬،‫ﴍ ِﻩ‬
ِّ َ ‫َو‬
ُ ْ‫ آ َﻣﻨ‬،ُ‫َو َﺻ َﺪ َق ُر ُﺳﻠُـﻪ‬
،‫ﴩﻳ َﻌ ِﺔ‬
ِ َ ْ‫ َو َﺻ َّﺪ ْﻗ ُﺖ ِابﻟ‬،‫ﴩﻳ َﻌ ِﺔ‬
ِ َ ْ‫ـﺖ ِابﻟ‬
َ ْ ‫َوإ ِْن ُﻛ ْﻨ ُﺖ ُﻗﻠْ ُﺖ َﺷـﻴﺌـﺎً ِﺧ َﻼ َف‬
،ُ‫اﻹﲨـﺎعِ َر َﺟ ْﻌ ُﺖ َﻋﻨْـﻪ‬
.‫ﻹﺳ َﻼ ِم‬
ْ ‫ﺗَﺒ َّـﺮ ْأ ُت ِﻣ ْﻦ ُﻛـ ِّﻞ ِد ٍﻳﻦ ﺧَﺎﻟ َ َﻒ ِد َﻳﻦ ٱ‬
believe in the Shariah, and I accept it as true, and if I have ever said anything that
contradicts the consensus, I retract it. I absolve myself from every religion that
contradicts the religion of Islam.
Allāhumma innī uʾminu bimā taʿlamu annahu al-ḥaqqu ʿindak,
wa abraʾu ilayka mimmā taʿlamu annahu al-bāṭilu ʿindak,
khudh minnī jumala, wa lā tuṭālibnī bil tafṣīl. Astaghfirullāh
Al-ʿAẓīma wa atūbu ilayh. 3x
O Allah, I believe in what You know is true with You, and I absolve myself from
what You know is false. Accept my actions as a whole, and do not call me to
account in detail. I seek Allah the Almighty’s forgiveness and repent to Him
‫ َوأَﺑْ َـﺮ ُأ‬، َ‫اَﻟﻠ ّٰـﻬُ َّﻢ إِﻧـِﻲ ُأو ِﻣ ُﻦ ِﺑ َﻤﺎ ﺗ َ ْﻌﻠ َ ُـﻢ أَﻧَّـ ُﻪ اﻟْ َﺤ ُّﻖ ِﻋ ْﻨ َﺪك‬
،‫ ُﺧ ْﺬ ِﻣﻨـِّﻲ ُ َﲨـ ًﻼ‬، َ‫ِإﻟَـ ْﻴ َﻚ ِﻣ َّﻤﺎ ﺗ َ ْﻌﻠ َ ُـﻢ أَﻧ َّـ ُﻪ اﻟ َﺒﺎ ِﻃ ُﻞ ِﻋ ْﻨ َﺪك‬
‫ُﻮب‬
ِ ‫َو َﻻ ﺗ َُﻄﺎ ِﻟ ْﺒﻨـﻲ ِابﻟﺘّـَ ْﻔ ِﺼ‬
ُ ‫ﷲ اﻟ َﻌ ِﻈ َﲓ َوأَﺗ‬
َ ‫ أَ ْﺳـ َﺘﻐْـ ِﻔ ُـﺮ‬،‫ﻴﻞ‬
.(‫ِإﻟ َ ْﻴ ِﻪ )ﺛ َﻼ َ ًاث‬
(3x).
Nadimtu min kulli sharr. Ashhadu an lā ilāha illā Allāhu
waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, wa ashhadhu anna Muḥammadan
ʿabduhu wa rasūluh, wa anna ʿĪsā ʿabdu l-Lāhi wa rasūluh, wa
ibnu amatih, wa kalimatuhu alqāhā ilā Maryam, wa rūḥun
minh. Wa anna al-Jannata ḥaqq, wa anna al-Nāra ḥaqq, wa
anna kulla mā jāʾa bihi rasūlu l-Lāhi ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa
ālihi wa sallama ḥaqq.
I regret every evil. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, One without
partner; and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger; and that
Jesus is His slave and Messenger, son of His maidservant, and His word which
He cast into Mary, and a Spirit from Him. And [I bear witness] that the Garden
is real, and that the Fire is real—and that everything which the Messenger of
Allah came with, Allah’s peace and mercy be upon him and his family, is true.
‫ أَ ْﺷﻬ َُﺪ أَ ْن َﻻ إﻟـٰﻪ ّإﻻ ٱ ُ َو ْﺣ َﺪ ُﻩ‬،‫ﻧ َ ِﺪ ْﻣ ُﺖ ِﻣ ْﻦ ُﻛـ ِّﻞ َﺷ ٍّـﺮ‬
َ ‫ﴍ‬
‫ َوأَ َّن‬،ُ‫ َوأَ ْﺷﻬ َُﺪ َأ َّن ُﻣ َﺤ َّﻤـﺪاً َﻋ ْﺒ ُﺪ ُﻩ َو َر ُﺳﻮﻟُـﻪ‬،ُ‫ﻳﻚ ﻟَـﻪ‬
ِ َ ‫َﻻ‬
‫ َو َﻛـ ِﻠ َﻤ ُﺘـ ُﻪ أَﻟْﻘَﺎﻫَﺎ‬،‫ َوٱ ْﺑ ُﻦ أَ َﻣ ِﺘ ِﻪ‬،ُ‫ِﻋﻴﺴـ َٰﻰ َﻋ ْﺒ ُﺪ ٱ ِ َو َر ُﺳﻮﻟُـﻪ‬
‫ َوأَ َّن ٱﻟﻨَّ َﺎر‬،‫ َوأَ َّن ٱﻟْ َﺠﻨَّ َﺔ َﺣ ٌّﻖ‬،ُ‫وح ِﻣ ْﻨﻪ‬
ٌ ‫ َو ُر‬،َ‫إ َ ِٰﱃ َﻣ ْﺮ َﱘ‬
ُ ‫ َوأَ َّن ُﻛـ َّﻞ َﻣﺎ َﺟﺎ َء ِﺑ ِﻪ َر ُﺳ‬،‫َﺣ ٌّﻖ‬
‫ﻮل ٱ ِ َﺻ َّ ٰﲆ ٱ ُ ﻋَﻠ َ ْﻴ ِﻪ‬
.‫َوآ ِﻟـ ِﻪ َو َﺳﻠَّـ َﻢ َﺣ ٌّﻖ‬
Wa anna khayra al-dunyā wa al-ākhirati fī taqwā Allāhi wa
ṭāʿatih, wa anna sharra al-dunyā wa al-ākhirati fī maʿṣiyati lLāhi wa mukhālafatih, wa anna al-sāʿah ātīyatun lā rayba fīhā,
wa anna Allāha yabʿathu man fī l-qubūr. Ashhadu an lā ilāha
illā Allāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, wa ashhadhu anna
Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh.
And that the best of this world and the hereafter is in mindfulness of Allah and
obedience to Him; and that the worst of this world and the hereafter is in
disobeying Allah and going against Him. And that the Hour is coming—there is
،‫َوأَ َّن ﺧ ْ ََﲑ ٱﻟـ ُّﺪﻧْـ َﻴﺎ َوٱ ْﻵ ِﺧ َﺮ ِة ِﰲ ﺗَـ ْﻘ َـﻮى ٱ ِ َو َﻃﺎﻋَـ ِﺘ ِﻪ‬
،‫َوأَ َّن َﺷ َّـﺮ ٱﻟـ ُّﺪﻧْـ َﻴﺎ َوٱ ْﻵ ِﺧ َﺮ ِة ِﰲ َﻣ ْﻌ ِﺼ َﻴ ِﺔ ٱ ِ َو ُﻣﺨَﺎﻟ َ َﻔ ِﺘ ِﻪ‬
‫ َوأَ َّن ٱ َ ﻳَـ ْﺒ َﻌ ُﺚ َﻣ ْﻦ‬،‫َوأَ َّن ٱ َّﻟﺴﺎﻋَ َﺔ آ ِﺗﻴَـ ٌﺔ َﻻ َرﻳْ َﺐ ِﻓﻴـﻬَﺎ‬
َ ‫ﴍ‬
‫ﻳﻚ‬
ِ َ ‫ أَ ْﺷﻬ َُﺪ أَ ْن َﻻ إ ٰﻟـﻪ ّإﻻ ٱ ُ َو ْﺣ َﺪ ُﻩ َﻻ‬،‫ِﰲ ٱﻟْ ُﻘـ ُﺒﻮر‬
.‫ َوأَ ْﺷﻬ َُﺪ أَ َّن ُﻣ َﺤ َّﻤـﺪاً َﻋ ْﺒ ُﺪ ُﻩ َو َر ُﺳﻮﻟُـ ُﻪ‬،ُ‫ﻟَـﻪ‬
no doubt in it—and that Allah will resurrect the people of the graves. I bear
witness that there is no god but Allah, One without partner; and I bear witness
that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Lā ilāha illā Allahu ufnī bihā ʿumrī. Lā ilāha illā Allāhu
adkhulu bihā qabrī. Lā ilāha illā Allāhu akhlū bihā waḥdī. Lā
ilāha illā Allāhu alqā bihā Rabbī. Lā ilāha illā Allāhu qabla
kulli shayʾ. Lā ilāha illā Allāhu baʿda kulli shayʾ. Lā ilāha illā
Allāhu yabqā Rabbunā wa yafnā kullu shayʾ. Lā ilāha illā
Allāhu, nastaghﬁru l-Lāh (3x). Lā ilāha illā Allāhu wa natūbu
ilā Allāh. Lā ilāha illā Allāhu, Muḥammadun rasūlu Allāh,
ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa ālihi wa sallim.
“There is no god but Allah”—I end my life with it. “There is no god but
Allah”—I enter my grave with it. “There is no god but Allah”—I remain alone
with it. “There is no god but Allah”—I meet my Lord with it. “There is no god
but Allah” before everything. “There is no god but Allah” after everything.
“There is no god but Allah”—our Lord remains while everything perishes.
“There is no god but Allah”—we seek Allah’s forgiveness (3x). “There is no
god but Allah”—we repent to Allah. There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is
the Messenger of Allah, Allah’s peace and mercy be upon him and his family.
‫ َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ أَ ْد ُﺧ ُﻞ‬،‫َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ ُأﻓْ ِﲏ ﺑِـﻬَﺎ ﻋُـ ْﻤ ِﺮي‬
‫ َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ‬،‫ َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ أَ ْﺧﻠُﻮ ﺑِـﻬَﺎ َو ْﺣ ِﺪي‬،‫ﺑِـﻬَﺎ ﻗَ ْ ِﱪي‬
‫ َﻻ‬،‫ َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ ﻗَ ْﺒ َﻞ ُﻛـ ِّﻞ َﺷ ْـﻲ ٍء‬،‫ٱ ُ أَﻟْﻘَ ٰﻰ ﺑِـﻬَﺎ َرﺑّـِﻲ‬
‫ َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ ﻳ َ ْﺒﻘَ ٰﻰ َرﺑُّـﻨَﺎ‬،‫ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ ﺑ َ ْﻌ َﺪ ُﻛـ ِّﻞ َﺷ ْـﻲ ٍء‬
،(‫ َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ ﻧ َ ْﺴـﺘَ ْﻐ ِﻔ ُﺮ ٱ َ )ﺛﻼ ًاث‬،‫ﳾ ٍء‬
ْ َ ‫َوﻳ َ ْﻔ َ ٰﲎ ُﻛـ ُّﻞ‬
‫ َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ ُﻣ َﺤ َّﻤـ ٌﺪ‬،ِ ‫ﻮب إ َ ِٰﱃ ٱ‬
ُ ‫َﻻ ِإﻟ َ ٰـ َﻪ إ ِّﻻ ٱ ُ َوﻧَـ ُﺘ‬
ُ ‫َر ُﺳ‬
.‫ﻮل ٱ ِ َﺻ َّ ٰﲆ ٱ ُ ﻋَﻠَ ْﻴ ِﻪ َوآ ِﻟـ ِﻪ َو َﺳﻠَّـ َﻢ‬
