T
he final day
of this five
day extravaganza began with a
trip to Sanchi, a place
revered by Buddhists.
Both student
and adult delegates
marveled at the
magnificent stone
Stupas. But the greatest attraction was
the four gates of the
Stupas. Absolutely
astounded by the
carvings on the stone
pillars, a delegate
exclaimed, “How
can somebody make
such intricate designs
with just a hammer
and a chisel!” When
an adult delegate
was asked what she
liked about Sanchi,
she replied, “Lovely
carvings, beautiful
detailing”
Everybody stood
mesmerized by the
picturesque scenery
and soaked in the
peaceful atmosphere
exuded by the heritage site.

Sanchi, a small village located
fifty-two kilometers from Bhopal, is one of the significant
centers of Buddhism. This
place, listed under the World
Heritage sites by UNESCO,
is a famous sightseeing destination that has innumerable
Buddhist structures, pillars
and monasteries.
Sanchi is unique in having the most prefect and well
preserved Stupas anywhere in
India. These monuments record the genesis, efflorescence
and decay of Buddhist art and
architecture over a period of
1300 years, from the 3rd BC to
12th century AD.
Ashoka, the Mauryan emperor laid the foundation of
this place and was also - the
initiator of all the “Stupas” at
Sanchi. This great monument
has been built to enshrine the
relics of Lord Buddha. Sanchi
is one of the famed destinations
that are not only recognized in
India but across the world. Today, this place has become a
legendary hub of Buddhism.

Day-6
Unforgettable
MOMENTS
This conference was
wonderful. Every moment was unforgettable. Students of this
school are very nice,
hospitable and welcoming. The service
provided to us in each
and every field was
very good. I have been
to India many times
before, but it was the
first time I was able to eat real Indian food and not
just boiled rice. Garba evening was magic. All the
Keynote Speakers were very good and their speeches
were thought provoking. I won’t be able to forget this
time throughout my life. All the theme dinners were
excellent and the decoration was fabulous. The theme
dinners helped me to understand what Indian culture
really is.

Day-6
This Round Square
Conference has been
wonderful, warm and
colourful. Every theme dinner
and Garba evening was fantastic.
Food is excellent though a lot
more spicy than I usually have.
Julian, Head, St. George’s
Grammer School, S. Africa
he closing ceremony witnessed a musical rendition of
‘Brahmanaad’, based on raga ‘Hansdhwani’ by the students of The Sanskaar Valley School. It is based on the
premise that whole universe was created from the energy of
sound.
The four new schools that have joined the growing Round
Square family were given membership certificates by Mr. Fraser.
Mr. Fumito Kurematsu of Tamagawa Academy was awarded a
special recognition for having made a distinctive contribution towards the goal of the Round Square and was recognized as a true
pillar of strength within the organization. As the gentleman was
unable to attend the conference, it was accepted on his behalf by
Mr. Hiro.
The language of art is said to universal. It has great educational significance and makes people more sensitive. In keeping with
the tenants of the Round Square, art was recognized and Kavya
of Indian School, Oman was announced the winner by Ms Ann
West and awarded by Mr. Fraser.
This year’s prestigious Kurt Hahn prize was awarded to Poppy
Mulford from the Regent’s School, Pattaya, Thailand, for her endeavor to restore hearing of a little girl whom she met during the
Regent’s School Round Square week.
Reports from Rikkas and workshops held during the conference were given by the different heads of the Round Square.
Mr. Guy Mclean presented his report on behalf of the Round
Square. Ms Jani Keep presented the report on behalf of the Members of The Governors of the Round Square. Mr. Evanca Acquisto
was on stage to present a report on behalf of the Heads attending
the conference and Mr. Amar Shrivastava to presented a report
on behalf of the Representatives. The common factor that featured in all their reports was the lavish praise that they showered
on their hosts, The Sanskaar Valley School.
Anudhi Lokwani and Zuber Warsi, as Round Square Captains,
had the honour and privilege to declare the conference statement, “Compromise not, with your dreams, live life full of passion, compassion and approach each other with love. Dissolve the
boundaries of differences and endeavor to collaborate. In togetherness, rests all solutions.” The statement was very well received
by everyone present in the audience.
The alumni pledge was a taken by an ex-student of The Sanskaar Valley School Utsav Agarwal. The Flag Ceremony of the
51 schools participating from 22 countries across 5 regions was
spectacular. It was an emotionally charged moment when the different schools once again displayed their flags to remind us of the
theme that ‘We may not have it all together but together we can have
it all’. It was an amalgamation of colours, cultures, emotions and
flavours from different parts of the world that enabled us to realize that though we are all different but inherently in the sinews
of our body, flows the same blood, the blood of human kindness.
Mr. Rodrick Fraser was all praise for the entire Sanskaar family for the untiring effort put in by each member in making the
conference a grand success. He thanked Ms Ann West for her immense contribution to Round Square. He appreciated everyone
right from our Director Mrs. Jyoti Agarwal to the entire student
fraternity for having been ‘magnificent hosts’ and having paid ‘attention to detail’.
This was followed by a dance recital, harmony in motion, ‘Mile
Sur Mera Tumhara’ which was put up by the Sanskaarians. It was
a performance that was something, the delegates would not forget
in a hurry. A short video clip which portrayed the journey of last
six days made everyone nostalgic. The National Anthem was followed by exchange of banners and the declaration of the theme by
United World College South East Asia, East Campus and Dover
Campus for the next Round Square Conference to be held in 2015.
A video presentation highlighting some candid moments of the
entire conference was shown at the end and was received with a
thundering applause.
I am loving this conference. It is completely
different and better
than the previous conferences
that I have attended. Food is
interesting. I love the Garba
dance and was completely lost
in the Indian culture.

T
he ‘Navratri’ is the nine day celebration of the triumph of good
over evil and it culminates in the festival of ‘Dussehra’. This day
marks the victory of Ram over the demon king Ravana. It is also
known as ‘Vijaya Dashami’. The concept of unity in diversity is on full display during the celebrations. In different parts of the country it is known
by different names and celebrated in myriad ways, yet the devotion and
dedication of the people one.
In north India, gigantic effigies of the ten-headed Ravana and his brothers are set aflame amidst bursting of crackers. Fairs are usually held on this
occasion with lots to eat, buy and enjoy. The people buy hundreds of idols
and try to create various settings that portray our culture and heritage. It is
like a mini-museum at home depicting mythology and ancient times. In the
east, this festival is celebrated as “Durga Pooja” where the goddess Durga
wins over a demon. It celebrates both the victory of truth and the greatness
of feminism. In Western India, the festival is celebrated as the dance festival - Garbha. This is absolutely fun and majestic at the same time.

My experience here has been
thought provoking. Each
Keynote Speaker made me
learn a new thing. Food was yummy
specially the Gulaab Jamuns and
Jalebis. The campus is neat and tidy.
The students here are very hospitable.

It has been a fantastic time. I
enjoyed each and every
moment. The dance time
was fun. Food is too good and I tried
a variety of food. The speakers were
very good and had a lot of experience. Campus of The Sanskaar
Valley School is very well organized.

My experience has been wonderful.
There have been opportunities to learn
a lot about India. I loved the culture of
India. The Garba night will be in my mind for a
very long time. Food is excellent. There is so
much in India that I was not able to cover up in
one trip. Hope to come back here once again.
