QUALIFYING EXAM’S SCOPE
Candidates can take an exam in one of the two major areas: Electrical and Electronics Area or
Computer Area.
One needs to select one of these areas. In the exam, candidates are asked to answer 10
questions out of 15.
Electrical and Electronics Area
1) One needs to answer 3 out of 4 questions that come from the following undergraduate
courses:
i. EEM 201 – EEM 202 Circuit Analysis
ii. EEM 305 Electronic Circuits
iii. EEM 203 Digital Design
iv. EEM 301 Signals and Systems
2) One needs to answer 2 out of 5 questions that come from the following undergraduate
courses:
i. EEM 302 System Dynamics and Control
ii. EEM 308 Communication
iii. MAT 301 Probability and Statistics
iv. EEM 303 Electromagnetics
v. MAT 104 Discrete Mathematics
3) One needs to answer 2 questions that come from the following graduate course:
i. EBM 561 Linear System Theory
4) One needs to answer 2 out of 4 questions that come from the following graduate courses:
i. EBM 521 Random Processes
ii. EBM 582 Software Engineering
iii. EBM 593 Algorithms
iv. EBM 596 Pattern Recognition
5) Candidate is asked one question about the thesis subject that he/she is planning to work on.
Computer Area
1) One needs to answer 3 out of 4 questions that come from the following undergraduate
courses:
i. BİL 102 Object Oriented Programming
ii. BİL 201 – BİL 303 Data Structures and Algorithms
iii. BİL 202 Database Management Systems
iv. BİL 301 Computer Networks
2) One needs to answer 2 out of 5 questions that come from the following undergraduate
courses:
i. MAT 301 Probability and Statistics
ii. BİL 302 Software Engineering
iii. BİL 304 Formal Languages and Automata Theory
iv. BİL 306 Operating Systems
v. MAT 104 Discrete Mathematics
3) One needs to answer 2 questions that come from the following graduate course:

4) One needs to answer 2 out of 4 questions that come from the following graduate courses:
i. EBM 521 Random Processes
ii. EBM 582 Software Engineering
