Bucyrus Little Theatre proudly presents May 2014 44820 OH The Cue Sheet Bucyrus, 741 Box P.O. Ave. Songer 130 Theatre Little Bucyrus Once Upon a Mattress BY SPONSORED TH AVITA HEAL SYSTEM Music by Mary Rodgers Book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer Lyrics by Marshall Barer It has been "Many Moons Ago" (40 years, to be exact!) since brand new director Miss Helen Picking was introduced to our Bucyrus Little Theatre. For her first directing endeavor, she selected a charming musical called "ONCE UPON A MATTRESS," which debuted on Broadway in 1959 and catapulted a fresh young ingénue named Carol Burnett into stardom. The show was produced for television in 1964 and again in 1972, with Ms. Burnett reprising her starring role as the loveable-but-boisterous Princess Winnifred. The 1995 Broadway revival featured Sarah Jessica Parker in that role. Ten years later, Disney produced a movie version of "MATTRESS" with Ms. Burnett switching roles to become the conniving Queen. With the show's continued popularity, it has become a fairytale favorite on the stage — delighting audiences with its colorful characters and enchanting musical numbers. Helen Picking Neff went on to become one of our most beloved and respected directors, with more than 25 shows to her credit. As a special tribute to this prestigious director and friend of the theatre, we will celebrate by re-visiting her BLT debut with a "rip-roaring" romp back into medieval times. Come join us as we take a peek behind the castle door and uncover the REAL story behind The Princess and the Pea… Directed by Cathy Cook, Once Upon a Mattress, will be staged on Friday and Saturday evenings on June 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons on June 8 and 15 at 2:30 p.m. Adult guest tickets are $15 and student guest tickets are $10. 2013/2014 Season Sponsors First Federal Community Bank; U Be Dazzled; Whetstone Animal Hospital, Dr. Jeffrey Holter; Wise Funeral Home Esco; Joanie’s Beauty Salon; Kinn Brothers; Nigh Builders, Inc.; Watts House of Insurance 2013 –2014 Board of Directors Scott Painter, President Tracy McAdams, Cindy Light, Vice President Tom Etsinger, David Cory, Business Manager Heidi Wurm, Liz Dolan, Treasurer Deb Cameron, Susan Keller, Rec. As many of you know, the Foundation awarded BLT a matching grant several years ago. That grant, together with a generous gift from the Timken Foundation, contributions from BLT theatre-goers, board members, private individuals and service clubs have made our renovations possible. We are fortunate so many have acted on their belief that live amateur theatre is important to our community. We are currently planning an open house at the start of our 2014-2015 Season to recognize all those who have gifted time and money to our Capital Building Campaign. Thanks, Scott Painter, BLT President Intermission This season we will be selling packaged snacks for the convenience of our guests. Bottled water and assorted candy bars will be available for purchase for $1, while coffee and all other snacks will be available for 50 cents each. All concession proceeds benefit our Capital Building Campaign and are used for theatre improvements. During shows with no intermission, snacks will be available before show time. We do appreciate any donation of purchased items in individual sized portions. Thanks! Coming to the BLT stage - Children’s Production 2014 “Be our guest” and step into the enchanted world of Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST JR. You will be transported to the heart of a quaint French town, where Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman, yearns for something more than her provincial life. When her father Maurice becomes lost in the woods on the way to present his latest invention at a local fair, he seeks shelter in an old castle but is soon taken captive by the master of the house, a horrible Beast. Belle surrenders her freedom to save his life and, by taming the Beast, teaches him the meaning of love. Directed by Cindy Light, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr. will hit the BLT stage on July 25, 26 and 27, 2014. This is a non-season production.
