Background: One of the features of the TASER X26™, X26P™, X2™, and X3® conducted electrical weapons (CEWs) is the ability to upload new operating firmware as upgrades are developed. On February 7, 2014, TASER will release X26 operating firmware Version 24. All X26 CEWs, digital power magazines (DPMs), extended digital power magazines (XDPMs) and TASER CAM™ recorders shipped after this date will be programmed with version 24. Changes made in version 24 to enhance the customer experience include: Support for TASER CAM Update of the error reporting function to include error code “E2.” The E2 error code appears on the central information display (CID) when the safety is shifted to the up (ARMED) position and system recognizes that the internal clock of the X26 has reset and is no longer accurate. This will have no effect on the functionality of the X26, but the X26 time should be synchronized as soon as possible through EVIDENCE Sync. The E2 error code will no longer appear on the CID once the X26 internal time has been reset. The Version 24 DPM, XDPM, and TASER CAM labels are grey. Updating to Version 24 Firmware: The Version 24 firmware can be uploaded to any existing X26 CEW by simply inserting a DPM, XDPM, or TASER CAM recorder that has been programmed with Version 24 firmware. All DPMs, XDPMs, and TASER CAM recorders are now fitted with a soft gasket that requires the DPM, XDPM, or TASER CAM recorder to be inserted firmly in order to get a good connection and cause the DPM release button to pop out and secure the DPM in place. A “P” will be displayed in the CID and the X26 will go through a programming phase during which the firmware is uploaded. CAUTION: It is imperative that the X26 not be disturbed during the programming phase after a DPM, XDPM, or TASER CAM recorder change. Moving the safety switch or removing the DPM during the programming phase will corrupt the X26 operating software and will require the X26 to be returned to TASER International for reprogramming. After the X26 has completed programming, the CID will go through the standard boot-up cycle. Once the cycle is completed, the Version 24 DPM can be removed and the older DPM can be reinserted into the X26. The X26 will retain the most current firmware. The Version 24 DPM, XDPM or TASER CAM can then be used to upgrade the firmware of other X26s.
