Autumn Edition
Volunteer Update
Volunteering Australia (VA) announced the theme for
the 25th anniversary year of National Volunteer Week
“Celebrate the power of volunteering” (12th – 18th
May). This year’s theme celebrates the empowerment
achieved by volunteering.
Celebrate the Power of Volunteering, will be adopted
by organisations nationally, to acknowledge and
thank more than six million volunteers Australia
wide, who together form a formidable workforce
empowering essential community, environmental,
sporting and cultural services that would struggle to
deliver service, without them.
Please keep Wednesday 14th May free for The
Bridge Volunteer celebration day. Your invitation will
be in the mail soon.

CMV Foundation
In February this year, Mary Haig and Daniel Crawford from CMV Foundation committee, visited
Kalimna to donate a cheque for $2500 to help improve our backyard at Narre Warren. They were
very impressed with our plans to work together with Holmesglen TAFE Carpentry students, in
building two wooden picnic tables and a chicken coop, as well as providing better wheelchair
access to the garden and adding some large portable umbrellas.
The CMV Group donation will definitely make these plans possible, as The Bridge Narre Warren
only has access to limited funds. Better access to our garden will provide more activities and
some great fun raising and caring for chickens. Our aim is to have the garden area completed by
the end of term 3. Discussions have started around having a Working BEE in the near future – so
watch this space!
Below is an extract from their website www.cmv.com.au
The CMV Group is incredibly focussed on giving back to the community, and the CMV
Foundation and CMV Staff Foundation form an important part of the overall culture at the CMV
Group. The CMV Foundation is a charitable trust deriving funding from Commercial Motor
Vehicles Pty Ltd which in turn earns its income from operations. The CMV Foundation’s charter
is to make donations and provide support to worthy causes in the broader community. Since its
formation in 1953 by the late Sidney Crawford, substantial funds have been donated, developing
social responsibility and awareness whilst assisting those less fortunate.
In similar spirit to the CMV Foundation, the employees of the CMV Group have established
a foundation of their own. The CMV Staff Charitable Foundation is funded by voluntary
contributions from staff, which are then matched dollar for dollar by the CMV Foundation. These
funds are then distributed to charities that are registered as deductable gift recipients as per the
Foundation Charter.
International Volunteers Day
In December 2013, Kalimna’s volunteers
got together for a morning tea to celebrate
“International Volunteers Day”.
kind-heartedness, cheeky nature and her
amazing awareness and attention to other
people’s needs.
We used this opportunity to farewell and thank
Gordon, Janice and Carol for their many years
of volunteering at The Bridge, Kalimna Services.
Carol commenced volunteering after a
Kalimna participant was no longer able to
continue line dancing class at the Oakgrove
Community Centre. With Carol’s assistance
this was no longer a barrier and her support
enabled the participant to continue boot
scooting! Carol’s dedication, loyalty and caring
nature will be sadly missed.
Gordon joined The Bridge as a volunteer
seven years ago, facilitating woodwork at the
Hampton Park Community House. Over the
years the group have created amazing pieces,
such as: bookcases, breakfast tables, bar
stools and deck chairs. Gordon’s’ enthusiasm
and creativity was abundant and the Kalimna
participants thrived with his encouragement.
Janice has volunteered her time over eight
years and supported a range of activities at
The Bridge. Janice initially began at our Narre
Warren site and then in 2006 moved over to
what was the newly operational Cranbourne
location. Janice found her niche supporting
the cooking group at the Upper Beaconsfield
Community Centre. We will miss Janice’s
Words cannot describe the importance of
the relationships formed between the many
wonderful volunteers and those they support.
Kalimna would not be the service it is today
without each of our volunteers so we would all
like to wish you all a BIG thank you.

come, but small ones surround us every day.”
