For Carriers, who are seeking for
ultra-performance of the hiX 5600 system
by extended switching capacity, 10 GE
uplinks and special features like MPLS.
The ADTRAN hiX 5600 central switching
unit CXU_G11 provides the central management, switching and uplink functionality of the
hiX 5600 shelf system. In the center of the star
backplane architecture of the shelf, the CXU unit
is the most important device in a hiX 5600 shelf
system, therefore the star architecture is doubled
on the backplane and a redundant CXU is
pluggable in most shelf systems.
The CXU_G11 provides four 1GE and
two 10GE uplink ports. Its enhanced switching
capacity enables the hiX 5600 for ultra-broadband (> 100 Mbps) applications by using fiber
GE line cards or high performance vectoring
VDSL2 line cards.
Increased controller performance and the
more in RAM memory of the CXU_G11 offers
new shelf central services, like MPLS or Ethernet
OAM via ITU-T Y.1731 and IEEE 802.3ah. MPLS
is used directly at the uplinks of the hiX 5600,
which opens new virtual traffic routing options
of services by two labels on top of VLAN routing.
The detection of network failures is supported
by Ethernet OAM according to IEEE 802.3ah
as well as according to ITU-T Y.1731. Network
failure detection is supported on service layer,
which allows the identification of interruptions
and faulty connections over all Ethernet network
segments and nodes used by one service.
This simplifies error detection to subscriber
service view and lowers down operators’
maintenance costs.
The synchronisation clock can be recovered
from each of the four GE or two 10GE uplink
ports via synchronous Ethernet. Also a T3
clock input is possible via the power module
PM_ONU_2G. The onboard oscillator has an
accuracy of 4.6 ppm for good clock holdover
performance in case of missing synchronisation
clock source. The clock is distributed to the line
cards with 8 kHz NTR signal, which can be
forwarded to the DSL ports. With the extra T4
clock output located at the CXU_G11 the clock
signal can also be provided to external devices.
The controller core of the CXU provides
important functions to the hiX 5600 system, like
initialisation and configuration of all components
of the shelf, HW and SW maintenance, collection
of performance and line-test data, remote
inventory and many more.
The hiX 5600 MSAN supports a wide variety
of management options. Like all CXUs of the
hiX5600 series, the CXU_G11 has a Fast Ethernet
port for local management and a serial CLI
interface for service access. The common network
management interface can be configured in-band
within an uplink port separated by a special
VLAN from normal traffic or physically separated
on the Fast Ethernet port depending on the
provider’s network security concept.
The CXU_G11 central switching unit
supports IGMP proxy and snooping for
effective downstream traffic distribution of
streaming services like IPTV.
Environmentally hardened, the CXU_G11
central switching unit can be installed in both
Central Office (CO) and Remote Terminal (RT)
environments.
