ICE SPORT SESSIONS*
S K AT I N G L E S S O N S
Open skating sessions offer skaters across a range of
age and ability levels the opportunity to enjoy recreational
ice-skating. Music from classical to contemporary tunes
enhances the exhilaration of skating in Mohonk’s Pavilion.
Ice-skating is generally available from Thanksgiving to late
March. Sports equipment (such as hockey sticks, balls,
etc.) is not permitted on the ice during open skating
sessions. Open skating is available to overnight guests at
no additional charge. Ice skates are complimentary to our
overnight guests—Mohonk provides recreational figure
skates; you are welcome to bring your own skates, if
desired. Specific times for open skating sessions will be
listed on the Activities Schedule on a daily basis and may
vary from day to day.
Ice sport sessions are designed to introduce overnight
guests to a variety of exciting winter ice games that will be
played on the rink at the Pavilion.
Lessons are available for skaters of all ages and abilities.
Please contact the Pavilion Shop at 845.256.2775 or
[email protected] to learn more about skating instruction.
Children age 12 and younger must be accompanied by an
adult over the age of 18 years when skating at the Pavilion.
Attire The Pavilion is an open-air facility. Please dress
accordingly—long pants and gloves are recommended.
Helmets are available at the Pavilion.
Safety No spins/jumps or “figure skating maneuvers”
during open skating sessions.
While hockey will not be offered, sessions of curling and
broomball will be scheduled at different times—please
check with the Pavilion for dates and times.
Broomball is played without skates or a hockey stick, and
uses instead a stiff broom with a large ball. Available to
overnight guests only, ages 13 and older.
Time For a “Refresher”
This private lesson is designed as a refresher for the
individual who has had previous skating experience but
would like to review certain skills. Instructors will work
individually with students during Open Skating sessions.
“Refresher” lessons are available to overnight guests of any
age. Please note that space and times are limited and that
reservations are required. A fee of $35 for half an hour of
instruction will be charged.

Curling (now an Olympic sport) is an ice sport of fitness
and finesse. Enjoyed by thousands of Americans every
year, the sport is played on ice without ice skates and is
made up of two teams of four people. The purpose of the
game is to put the stones closest to the house (circles
painted into the ice). Some similarities exist between
Curling and Bocce and English lawn bowling. Available to
overnight guests only, 13 years of age and older.
Located above Lake Mohonk, only a few hundred feet from
the Mountain House, Mohonk’s award-winning Pavilion is
home to a 9,375 square-foot refrigerated ice rink. The
Pavilion features open sides, wooden roof beams, stone
columns, and a 39-foot-tall stone fireplace that serves as the
focal point of the interior. The fireplace is fabricated from
Mohonk’s own Shawangunk conglomerate, the same stone
that makes up the cliffs that surround Lake Mohonk.
