What is Connecting Northern and Eastern Ontario?|
Connecting Northern and Eastern Ontario (cNEO)* is one of three province-wide programs: 1) cNEO, 2) Connecting Greater
Toronto Area (cGTA), and Connecting South West Ontario (cSWO), funded by eHealth Ontario, to deliver electronic health
record services. cNEO will provide clinicians in Northern and Eastern Ontario with timely and secure access to patient health
information from across the care continuum. This will be done by integrating and ‘connecting’ information sources in
Northern and Eastern Ontario and provincially. Clinicians will be able to view patient health Information through the use of a
Clinical Viewer (Portal) or EMR. With reliable and secure electronic health information, clinicians will have comprehensive
information to deliver better and more coordinated patient care. For more information about cNEO, visit: www.cNEO.ca.
*The Ottawa Hospital is the Delivery Partner for the planning, mobilization and implementation of cNEO.
Special Edition: Highlighting the cNEO Clinical Working Group’s Achievements
Message from the Clinical Working Group Co-Chairs
cNEO Clinical Working Group
Colleagues,
•
We are pleased to inform you of the conclusion of the Clinical Working
Group’s (CWG) efforts for the cNEO Planning Phase! As Co-Chairs of the
CWG, we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the members
for their time, effort, insight and participation. As your CWG
representatives at the cNEO Steering Committee, we brought forward
your recommendations which helped ensure that the provincial solution
will provide both the clinician and patient value that the program is
seeking. You have contributed invaluable feedback over the past two
years to define clinical priorities and provide guidance on all matters
relating to Electronic Health Record (EHR) services planning. Your clinical
perspective has guided cNEO’s development and has prepared the
program for implementation.
•
cNEO will be conducting a “Call for Members” shortly to refresh the cNEO
Working Groups for cNEO Implementation. We encourage clinicians to
join the cNEO Clinical Working Group and influence EHR services going
forward. Clinician engagement and leadership is crucial for the success of
cNEO, and we look forward to your involvement!
In the meantime, please enjoy this special edition of the eBulletin which
highlights some of the Clinical Working Group’s achievements over the
past two years.
Sincerely,

cNEO Clinical Working Group: Achievements
 Provided the Clinical Focus for cNEO:
“Connecting clinical information for Hospital, Primary and Community
Care in NEO; with initial emphasis on enabling clinical information
flow from Hospitals to Primary and Community Care”
 Advocated for Critical Success Requirements: cNEO “ease of use” (single sign-on and patient context features) as
well as significant adoption and change management support to ensure successful clinician adoption.
 Recommended cNEO Clinical Priorities which provided the foundation for cNEO plans: Improve the Quality of
Patient Care, Patient Safety, Continuity of Care and Sustainability of Health Care.
 Recommended targeted cNEO Early Adopter Stakeholder Groups such as Hospitals, Community Health Centres,
Long-Term Care, Team-Based Practices (e.g. Family Health Teams), etc.
 Identified cNEO Prioritized Data Categories such as Laboratory Results, Medications, Discharge Summaries, etc.,
all of which are included in the cNEO roadmap!
North West SDP
North East SDP
Champlain SDP
South East SDP
 Recommended that stakeholder engagement and support be regionally
focused. As a result, cNEO will now establish local Service Delivery
Partners (SDPs) to help deliver adoption and change management!
 Clinical Working Group Co-Chairs presented 150+ Stakeholder Information
Session Presentations to inform stakeholders of cNEO’s progress and next
steps; and received invaluable feedback and support from their clinician
peers.
 Provided clinical guidance and recommendations to the
cNEO Steering Committee, Privacy & Security and Technical
Working Groups which helped ensure clinician and patient
needs will be at the forefront of the provincial solution!
 Identified Clinician Roles for Implementation. Please
contact cNEO should you be interested in participating!
