Jackrabbit Road, Scottsdale 85250 WHAT: Cox Communications and Scottsdale Unified School District’s Mohave Middle School is joining Cartoon Network’s “Stop Bullying: Speak Up” campaign which helps raise awareness, build partnerships and empower young people to speak up against bullying. The anti-bullying rally will include honest discussion about teen experiences with cyberbullying including what to do when it happens, and how to minimize it. A student panel discussion will include Mohave Middle School students moderated by Don Logan, former director of the City of Scottsdale’s Office of Diversity and Dialogue. Students will also learn about the results of the 2014 Cox Take Charge survey which uncovers the way Arizona teens are impacted by bullying on the Internet. Highlights from the survey include: 36 percent of Arizona teens have fallen victim to cyberbullying (a 6 percent increase over the national average) o Only 38 percent of teen victims report bullying to an adult Nearly 50 percent of teens have cleared search history files to hide things from their parents The average Arizona teen spends nearly 6 hours on the Internet daily Mohave Middle School students will also practice their PAWS – to Practice respect, Accept responsibility, Work together and know that Safety matters. Additionally, students have been taught to respond to disrespect from others by telling that person to stop, to walk away, and to talk to an adult. Mohave’s Stop, Walk and Talk campaign is a natural fit with the Cartoon Network’s “Stop Bullying: Speak Up” campaign.
