Newsletter of 41st AGM & 23rd International Scientific Conference of OGSB Date: 25-27 September 2014. 25th September 26th September 27th September 28th September 29th September Pre Congress workshop on CTG AGM & Election & CME Inaugural Session Scientific Session & Cultural Program & Dinner Whole day Scientific Conference Post Congress workshop on Coloposcopy Post Congress workshop on Gynaecological Oncologic Surgery Pre Congress Workshop on CTG A CTG Master Class was held in Carnival Hall of BICC on 25th September 2014 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The CTG workshop was conducted by Prof. S. ArulKumaran, Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, St George’s, University of London & President of the International Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (FIGO). The session was chaired by Prof. Sameena Chowdhury, Prof. of Obs and Gynae, consultant BRAC University, and Porf. Fatema Ashraf, Prof of obs & Gynae Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College. The class was divided into a number of session, The presentation were on ACID BASE BALANCE, Physiology of fetal oxygenation during labour, Inter partum events leading to fetal hypoxia. Acidosis, was very extensively discussed. FHR Changes with oxytocin and changes in CTG along with Fetal outcome and the possible Medico legal issues that can arise was discussed. There was a number of case Scenario discussed for proper understanding of the CTG reports. The participants expressed their satisfaction as the sessions enriched their knowledge. Inaugural session The Inaugural Session was held on 25th September 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Agargaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. His Excellency Md. Abdul Hamid, the President of People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu MP Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh was the Special Guest. Mr. Zahid Maleque MP Hon’ble State Minister, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Latifa Shamsuddin, President-OGSB Chaired the inaugural session, Prof. Parveen Fatima, Secretary General-OGSB gave the key note speech. 26th September Election The Election was held on 26th Sept. 2014 in the Media Bazar Hall from 8:00 to 4:00 pm. Prof. AKM Anowar-ul-Azim conducted the election as Chairman of Election Commission. CME The CME began in Carnival Hall at 8:30am The CME session was chaired by Prof. Rubina Sohail and Prof. Rohit Bhatt. The speakers were authority in their own subject with huge experince in the field. Prof. Rohit Bhatt Presented on “Impact of Environment on Reproductive health” Prof. Alokendu Chatterjee talked on “Evidence Based Medicine” Prof. TA Chowdhury presented on “Detection & Management of Diabetes during pregnancy” Prof. W.W Sumpaico presented on “1st Trimester Prediction of Pre-eclampsia” Prof. S. Arulkumaran talked on “Induction of labour – Definition of success”. “Liver Disease in Pregnancy” by Prof. Hemantha Perera & “Intrauterine growth retardation- Diagnosis and management” by Dr Saswati Sanyal Choudhury. The topics in the CME program were very enriching & enlighting & the participants were hugely benefited by the presentations. AGM The AGM started simultaneous in the Hall of Fame at 10:00 am. There was good participation during the AGM. There was discussion about minutes of previous AGM. Then there was discussion on all the new issues that came up. After the lunch break in Hall of Fame, in Plenary-II started at 2pm. There was presentation on “PPH current concepts” by Prof. Alokendu Chatterjee, “Menopause & HRT” presented by Prof. Shahla Khatun. Knowledge Transfer Global Library of Women's Medicine presented by Prof. Arulkumaran In Harmony hall there was Free paper I (Obstetrics) where papers on different topics of interest in Obstetrics was presented by the young gynaecologist. At 3:00-4:00 SAFOG session, AOFOG session & Free paper II started simultaneously in? 3 halls. The The SAFOG session was a panel discussion on Pre-Eclampsia/Eclampsia where the panelist were from regional countries discussion on the topic. Prof. Rubina Sohail was the moderator. It was a very interactive & lively discussion. The AOFOG session was another very interesting session which was held in Harmonry hall & continued for 2 hours. The presentations were: Premenstrual syndrome - whose domain presented by Prof. Rohit Bhatt, Management of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome talked by Prof P C Ho & Obstetric Doppler presented by Prof. W.W Sumpaico. The Session was chaired by Prof. Shahla Khatun & Prof. W.W Sumpaico. The SAFOG Council Meeting began in Harmony Hall where there was full participation by representatives of different countries. There was discussion about the last SAFOG council meeting held in Hydereabad Prof. Rohana then disseminated & discussed about the FIGO-SAFOGSLCOG Conference to be held in Sri Lanka on 30th October to 3rd November 2014. There was also discussion on other issues of common interest. Prof. Arul Kumaran informed everybody that Advanced Life Support training will be held as pre congress workshop and the registration fees has been waived for the participants . The Making it Happen was a session where there was detailed discussion on LSS;;;; The resource persons from LSTM (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine) & there were 2 presentations on use & importance of Partogram There was a very enlightening and gorgeous Gala night where there was a colorful Cultural program. There was a combination of dance songs & music. The cultural program was followed by a grand dinner There were 3 very exciting raffle draws by Renata Ltd., Square Pharma Ltd and Beximco Ltd. There was a young gyanecologists award by Renata Ltd where 3 presenters were awarded for their best scientific paper Dr. Shaila Nazneen Tania, Dr. Zobaida Sulana Susan, Dr. Jannatul Ferdous& Dr. Murshed Jahan Binte Ali The participants enjoyed the dinner and the gala night. 7th September 2014 Simultaneous sessions were held in 3 halls. There was Plenary-II, Infertility update II & SAFOM sessions. The session were very interesting & participatory. Memorial Lecture Memorial Lecture was held in Hall of Fame where there were 2 speakers, Prof. TA Chowdhury & Prof. Latifa Shamsuddin. The session was dedicated in the memory of our very dear member who we lost in the recent past- Late Prof. Ameena Majid, Late Dr. Ferdausi Khanum, Late Dr.Razia Sultana, Late Dr. Rebeka Sultana & Late Dr. Sokena Khanam Bely. Dr. Mariam Faruqui read out a few words about Late Prof. Ameena Majid, Late Dr. Ferdausi Khanum, Late Dr.Razia Sultana, Late Dr. Rebeka Sultana & Late Dr. Sokena Khanam Bely. Prof. Rashida Begum gave brief & very touching resume of late Prof. Ameena Mjidd. Prof. TA Chowdhury then presented on Adolescent Health –Global & Bangladesh scenario. Prof. Latifa Shamsuddin then elaborated on the theme of the conference “ Promotion & Protection of the women’s Health” The Policy session followed the Memorial Lecture session and was a very interactive one where the stakeholder from DG Health and DG Family planning including the Secretary General of BMA were present. It was a very interesting & participatory session. The co-panelists asked questions to the panelists & their was interactive question from the floor as well. There was a VIDEO session simultaneously in Harmony Hall where the presenters presented different surgery. After the tea break then was a simultaneous session in 3 halls that is FIGO session, MNH & Family planning session. There was a free paper-III session in Media Bazar at the same time. Poster Presentation Post congress workshop on colposcopy The 23rd international scientific conference of OGSB was followed by post congress workshop on Colposcopy. The program was held at Millon Hall in BSMMU. Prof. Parveen Fatima Sec. Gen of OGSB welcomed the audience. There were about 300 participants. The program was divided into three sessions. The scientific presentations on basics of colposcopy, video demonstration on practical sessions of colposcopy and case discussions. The scientific session was chaired by Prof. S.B. Chowdhury and Khurshid Jahan Moula. The speakers, covered different aspects of colposcopy, CIN and its managements. The video demonstration on practical sessions of colposcopy was conducted by Mr. David Goodall, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from UK and Prof. Ashrafunnessa along with their team. Prof Latifa Shamsuddin handed the certificate to the participants . Post congress workshop on Gynaecological Oncology A post congress workshop on Gynaecological Oncolology was held on 29th September, 2014 from 8.00 AM to 6.00 PM at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib medical University. Dr. Jeffrey Low, Associate Professor & Head, Gynaecologic Oncology Division, National University Hospital, Singapore was the resource person of the workshop. Prof. Sabera Khatun, Profesor of Gynaecologic Oncology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) co-ordinated the program. There were 10 participants for hands-on and 67 participants for plenary session. Lectures were delivered by Prof. T. A. chowdhury and Dr. Jeffrey Low who gave lecture on the management of cervical cancer. In the practical session two major operations and one minor operation (Needle cone biopsy) were performed by Dr. Jeffrey Low. The participants enjoyed the operations very enthusiastically. The workshop ended by giving presentation and thanks to the resource person.
