This business exhibition brings many professionals together to create bridges between different networks and industries including environmental, science and technology related fields. It also aims to foster an international exchange of people and ideas from around the world, boasting 833 exhibitors this year alone, including the Toyota Group as well as other Nagoya based manufacturing entities. This year’s Messe Nagoya expects to see some 60,000 visitors. Tickets: Purchase tickets in advance from Circle K, SunKus and Seven Eleven (P-code 988-433) or from Ticket Pia, Lawson or Mini Stop (L-code 40967) Exhibition: Life in Okumikawa - Hanamatsuri & Rituals 奥三河のくらしと花祭・田楽 In the Okumikawa district of Aichi, there’s a ritual folk dance known as the “Dance of the Ogre” to ask for an abundant harvest and to celebrate “Hanamatsuri” (the birth of Buddha). This exhibition brings together the everyday items of mountain people along with Hanamatsuri and its associated rituals to help us reflect and appreciate the importance of mountain village culture and customs as well as the forest. Nagoya Classic Car Meeting 2013 家族で楽しめる旧車の祭典 A free event for the whole family featuring a classic car parade (with cars no newer than 1985 models), classic car exhibition, flea market, and street entertainers. The owners of the cars are also present, and to this day their cars still pass roadworthiness tests and are being driven. There’ll also be some food stalls as well as some performances for kids so you can make a day of it with the family. Cost: Free Mammoth Flea Market 2013 マンモスフリーマーケット With over 3500 booths and around 60,000 people – this is largest flea market in Japan, and has been appropriately named! The market goes back some 20 years. Using the entire “mammoth” area which Port Messe has to offer, you can easily enjoy the whole day there. Apart from the markets there’ll also be a variety of events and activities throughout the day to keep you entertained. Star Gazing at the Science Museum 市民観望会 Following a brief talk at the planetarium you will proceed to the rooftop’s main telescope and various other telescopes to observe the night’s recommended celestial scenery. Dome Yakimono World 2013 ドームやきものワールド The largest ceramics and porcelain exhibition in Japan with over 400 booths representing all the major pottery & ceramics centers in Japan, including Seto, Tokoname, Mino and many more! You’ll find tableware of all sorts. From cutlery to plates, bowls and glassware, it’s all here. Every year the event attracts approximately 100,000 visitors. There’s even a delivery counter so you can arrange for delivery and not worry about carrying all your heavy purchases home! Jokoji Temple and Jokoji Koen 定光寺・定光寺公園 Located in Seto, this temple and the surrounding park are popular spots for viewing autumn leaves. The temple dates back to 1336. The park’s autumn leaf viewing festival runs from Saturday, November 2 to Sunday, December 1. There are approximately 500 trees in the area and about 100 trees within the boundaries of the temple and park alone. Access: Approximately a 15 minute walk from Jokoji Station on the JR Chuo Line. PRAY ・祈 -古今東西祈りの風景An exhibition showing works and pieces from various countries and cultures which aims to exhibit the variety of religions from those regions. From Shinto and Buddhism to the Rouault Miserere series, a selection of works from around the world will be exhibited to help deepen our understanding and appreciation for how people around the world worship. Seventy Years of the Art of Aichi 「アイチのチカラ!―戦後愛知のアート、 70年の歩み」展 Aichi is well known to be one of the significant bases of contemporary post-war art in Japan. It has three Universities of Arts, as well as a large number of art museums and galleries. With the richness of this fostering environment it’s no surprise that Aichi produces some of the most significant artists, not only in Japan, but in the world. With this exhibition, look back upon the path which led to the artistic achievements of Aichi. From post-war to the present, see some of the greatest works from the museum collection. The Aichi Triennale showed ANDO Masako <The Garden of Belly Button> us many works from around the Oil on Canvas Panel 190.0cm x 140.0cm Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art Collection world, and now, the museum would © Masako Ando like to show the world the greatness of Aichi’s art. An excellent exhibition for both newcomers to Aichi as well as its long-terms residents where you can appreciate the amazing caliber of art which Aichi has produced to date. Tokugawaen Garden Autumn Matsuri and Dance 錦を纏う徳川園紅葉祭 See approximately 300 autumnal trees colour the breathtaking garden grounds and join in the Gujo dance around the large pond (all welcome). Garden Illumination between Thursday, November 21 and Sunday, December 1 (closed on Monday, November 25). The garden is open from 9:30 to 20:30 (last entry 20:00). Illumination: Chapter 1 “Rainbow” イルミネーション第１章「虹」 This year’s theme is the rainbow. Approximately 250 types of orchids from around the world in the atrium and pond of the grounds beautifully coloured with about 170,000 decorative lights! As well as enjoying the florid surrounds where the rainbow illuminates the winter evening, take this opportunity to take some memorable photographs at this picturesque location. The courtyard’s pond will also be lit up and will further add a magical touch to the atmosphere. When: Saturday, November 9 to Wednesday, December 25 (illuminated between 16:00 and 20:00).
