For immediate release August 21, 2014:
Douglas County Libraries launches the Great
Douglas County Beer Tour in September
In September, Douglas County Libraries (DCL) will partner with craft breweries in
Douglas County on the Great Douglas County Beer Tour, inviting people to enjoy
the products and hospitality of local businesses, and to experience their public
libraries in a new way.
Joining the beer tour is free, requires only a visit to each participating brewery, and
entitles the holder of a completed beer tour passport to a commemorative beer glass
courtesy of DCL. Brewery visitors will enjoy locally brewed craft beers, plus book
recommendations based on attributes of their favorite beer styles.
“It’s a fun way to draw parallels between books and libraries and the other things we
enjoy in our everyday lives,” said Kerri Morgan, program and events supervisor for
Douglas County Libraries. “For example, a bittersweet Pale from Living the Dream
Brewing might pair well with ‘Shotgun Love Songs,’ Nickolas Butler’s bittersweet
story of going home again.”
Four participating breweries will also create special, limited-edition brews to be
tapped in September specifically for the library beer tour, including an Irish Red
from Elk Mountain Brewing Company. Library patrons will have the opportunity to
name these four brews, winning prizes and adulation in the process.
The Great Douglas County Beer Tour is just one of Douglas County Libraries’
contributions to Outside the Lines, a Colorado library led initiative to reintroduce
libraries to their communities. More than 125 libraries across the U.S. and Canada
are participating in Outside the Lines during September, hosting events intended to
get people thinking and talking about libraries in a new way.

“Today’s libraries are dynamic, exciting centers for engagement, and are more
relevant than ever before,” said Amber DeBerry, associate director of community
