professionals with extensive
experience in company
creation and raising venture
finance. Our team has a
deep understanding of
the pharmaceutical and
biotechnology industry
and knows what the key
market drivers are.

Our Business Creation team
works with academics and clinicians
from the University of Edinburgh
to identify and develop novel
technologies, secure IP protection,
build ‘investor ready’ business
plans and recruit talented and
experienced management teams.
In the past four years we’ve spun out ten
new companies across the drug, device,
and service sectors. Recent success
stories include:
• i2eye Diagnostics Ltd – creators of the
world’s first visual field analyser for
children and vulnerable patient groups
• Edinburgh Molecular Imaging (EMI)
– an in-vivo diagnostic imaging
company striving to reduce diagnostic
uncertainty at the bedside and
COLLABORATION
improve the outcomes for critically ill
patients and reduce the overall burden
on the health service
• NeurocentRx – a speciality Pharma
company developing new drug
formulations to treat cancer pain
• Aquila BioMedical – a specialist Contract
Research Organisation focused on
immunology and neuroscience
These spin-outs are just the start, as the
Team’s pipeline of potential life science
companies continues to develop and is
expected to result in a similar number
of new businesses in the next few years.
We also run a yearly innovation
competition to capture new projects
and ideas and work with inventors to
develop these further.
