misinterpreted by some managers in the critical care cluster
to allow for them to designate CNI for an individual that
possesses a needed skill set and not pay CNI to other
nurses working extra shifts at the same time. The contract is
extremely clear that “once a shift has been identified on a
unit or CNI cluster as a Critical Need Incentive shift, any
FTE nurse in the unit or cluster who works the shift as
an ‘extra’ shift shall receive the pay differential…”
If you have worked an extra shift on a day in which you know
another nurse in the cluster or unit received CNI then you
were entitled to CNI for that shift as well. Please contact an

remuneration.
