VISA NATIONALS - Department of Materials

VISA NATIONALS
Nationals of the countries listed below require a visa or entry clearance for every trip to the UK.
Certificates of Sponsorship are awarded to those nationals deemed suitable and eligible by their sponsor, in
accordance with the requirements of the UK points-based tier immigration system. A sponsorship certificate does not
in itself guarantee UK entry clearance: it is merely a pre-requisite for a potential ‘migrant’ who intends to travel to the
UK. Once in possession of a sponsorship certificate, a holder can apply for a UK visa.

the Head of Department’s office on current policy.
OTHER NON-VISA NATIONALS
Other non-visa nationals are nationals or citizens of any country that are NOT listed in Appendix 1 of the UK Border
Agency’s Immigration Rules. A non-visa national does not normally need a visa to visit the United Kingdom for less
than six months, unless it is a requirement of the immigration category under which they are entering – e.g. as a
sponsored researcher to “work” in the UK. Any non-visa national coming to the United Kingdom for more than six
months will need a visa.
Examples (but not an exhaustive list) of other non-visa nationals include nationals from countries such as:
