DCID-EXT
Dialer Capture Intelligence Device
INSTALLATION AND SETUP GUIDE
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Honeywell DCID-EXT Dialer Capture Intelligence
Device (referred to as the DCID-EXT) is intended for
control panels that DO NOT support the Honeywell
ECP bus and therefore are not capable of communicating with Honeywell AlarmNet communication
devices over an ECP bus. Additionally it is for
instances where NO PHONE LINE SERVICE is used
for reporting.
INSTALLATION
Notes:
•
Ensure the power source complies with the
specified input voltage for this device. The power
source must utilize a battery backup.
•
When used with control panels where no wired
zones are available (for wiring the output
TRIGGER signal to), mount the DCID-EXT inside
the control panel.
This DCID-EXT can be mounted external to, or inside
the control panel’s cabinet.
•
When used with control panels that have an available wired zone (for wiring the output TRIGGER
signal to), the DCID-EXT may be mounted inside
the control panel or mounted externally.
•
The DCID-EXT will report certain trouble
conditions by activating the Trigger signal sent to
the control panel. An active Trigger signal will be
set when any of the following conditions occur:
The DCID-EXT Dialer Capture Intelligence Device
captures Contact ID messages from a control panel’s
phone line and sends them to a Honeywell ECP bus
AlarmNet communications device (e.g., 7845GSM),
which then communicates those messages to the central
station over the GSM network or internet.
OPERATION
When an event occurs, the control panel goes off hook to
dial the central station. The DCID-EXT detects the offhook condition and provides the control panel with a
dial tone. When the control panel detects the dial tone,
it begins dialing the central station. After the phone
number is completed, the DCID-EXT returns a
handshake to the control panel.
The control panel then sends the reports to the DCIDEXT, which in turn sends them over the ECP bus to the
AlarmNet communications device. The DCID-EXT
kisses off each report received successfully from the
control panel. The communications device then
transmits the messages to the central station (either
over the GSM network, or the internet, as applicable).
When all the reports are sent, the DCID-EXT goes off
hook.

An AlarmNet communications device fault
occurs.
The above condition will be reported if the output
trigger is wired to an available zone and the red
power wire to the DCID-EXT is intact. To ensure
the security of the red power wire, mount the
DCID-EXT in the control panel.
External Horizontal Wall Mounting:
For horizontal mounting, two slotted holes are used.

PACKAGE CONTENTS
The following items are included:
•
•
♦
Measure and transfer the position of the two
horizontal mounting holes to the desired mounting
area.
Drill 3/16 inch holes for drywall, or 7/32 inch holes
for plaster. Tap in plastic wall anchors.
Insert self-tapping screws into the wall anchors
leaving the heads projecting 1/8”. Hang the DCIDEXT on the screw heads via two of the slotted holes
on the module back.
External Vertical Wall Mounting:
For vertical mounting, one slotted hole and one open
hole are used. The circuit card must be removed for
access to the open hole.

phone line voltage. When the radio becomes
initialized, normal operation will resume.
Remove the circuit board by squeezing the two
internal plastic retention tabs, while gently pulling
the circuit card.
Hang the DCID-EXT enclosure on the screw, then
insert the second screw through the enclosure back
into the open hole.
Orient the circuit board edge in the enclosure
starting with the side opposite the two plastic
retention tabs. When the circuit board edge is
properly seated, push to snap the opposite end of
the board into place.
Internal Control Panel Mounting:
When mounting inside of control panels, the mounting
method must be determined by the installer depending
on the particular control panel. If raised tabbed holes
are available, please use them. For those panels where
raised tab holes are not available, then a sufficient
amount of double stick foam tape (installer supplied) or
other suitable method should be used.
It is important to locate the DCID-EXT within the
control panel so that its cover can easily be removed for
testing and service.
CONNECTIONS
1. If the enclosure cover is on, remove by gently
prying the cover off.
2. Connect the wires as shown in the DCID-EXT
Dialer Capture Intelligence Device Connections
diagram.
3. Affix the supplied Summary of Connections label to
the inside of the enclosure cover.
4. Replace the enclosure cover by snapping back in
place.
‰
Pulse dialing is not supported and must be disabled
in the control panel.
‰
Since this product does not communicate through a
PABX, do not program the PABX fields.
‰
To ensure the maximum amount of messages can
be transmitted to the central station before a com
failure occurs, ensure the control panel is programmed with a primary and secondary central
station number.
‰
Ensure the control panel is programmed for the
maximum number of retry attempts.
‰
This product only supports one-way communications (from the control panel to the central station).
For those control panels that support two-way voice
communications, speakerphone, paging, follow-me,
etc., these features will no longer be available. The
control panel must be programmed for one-way
communications only.
‰
Since this product only supports one-way communications (from the control panel to the central station), the Honeywell Compass Downloader cannot
be used.
‰
In the event this product loses power (such as from
a cut wire) it would not be able to generate a fault
trigger to the control panel and set an alarm. In
this case, after the panel has exhausted its redial
attempts, a com failure will be displayed by the
panel (you may have to scroll through the
messages).
‰
If the DCID-EXT senses a fault, it will send a
Trigger signal to the control panel zone (if wired to
a zone). At this point the DCID-EXT will also drop
the phone line voltage and will not provide a dial
tone to the control panel. During this time, the
control panel will make retry attempts (8 for
residential, and more for commercial) to dial out
and send a report. Until the control panel has
completed the series of retry attempts it will not be
able to detect a Telco fault.
INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION NOTES
Please read each configuration note and implement the
appropriate ones for the installation. Mark each
“Check Box” to ensure the notes are understood and
implemented as necessary.
‰
The AlarmNet communications device must be
configured as device 3 on the ECP bus. Ensure
other devices do not conflict with this address.
‰
The subscriber ID sent to the central station will be
the one programmed into the AlarmNet communications device, not the one in the control
panel.
‰
This product supports 4-digit account code Contact
IDs.
‰
Since control panel messages are now routed
through the DCID-EXT to the central station, the
message confirmation kissoff signal sent back to
the control panel ONLY confirms the DCID-EXT
received the message. Under certain communication conditions it is possible that the control
panel message was not received by the central
station.
‰
When the DCID-EXT is first powered up and does
not detect an initialized radio within 5 minutes, it
will generate a fault to the control panel.
Additionally the control panel will not receive
To minimize the wait time, for control panels that
allow setting the Telco Fault detection time, please
set it to the minimum detection time.
2
‰
For control panels that may generate erroneous
Telco fault conditions based on grounding (such as
the VISTA-15), at the control panel turn off "Telco
Fault" monitoring.
‰
If an AlarmNet communications device fault is
detected, this will be reported to the control panel
as a com failure. If Telco fault is turned on, an
AlarmNet failure will be displayed as a Telco Fault.
If the DCID-EXT trigger is wired to a zone, the
DCID-EXT will trigger the control panel to alarm
this zone and display a message. With some
control panels, displayed alarm messages for
triggered zones may hide a "com failure" message.
The com failure message can be displayed by first
clearing the zone alarm message(s).
‰
DCID-EXT, keypads and AlarmNet
communications device will be reset.
If the DCID-EXT, keypads, and the AlarmNet
communications device are powered from the
control panel’s aux power (that is reset for a fire
alarm reset), and a fire alarm reset occurs, the
