About The University
SRM University is one of the top ranking
Universities in India accredited by NAAC
with A Grade. It has over 38,000 students
and 2600 faculties, offering a wide range of
Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral
program in Engineering, Management,
Medicine & Health Sciences and Humanities.
Over the last two and half decades, SRM
University has set standards in Education
system and knowledge conception across
various fields. The institution has reached
beyond the borders to universities and
corporate across India and around the world.
During January 2011, SRM University has
conducted 98th Indian Science Congress,
which was inaugurated by Dr. Manmohan
Singh, Prime Minister of India and 7000
delegates including six Nobel Laureates and
several eminent scientists from across the
world participated. SRM University is the first
private university to launch a Nano Satellite
named “SRMSAT” onto space, on-board the
PSLV-C18 from sriharikota on 12th November
2011.
About Earthquake Research Cell
SRM University established an Earthquake
Research cell (ERC) for Advanced Research on
the causes for origin, occurrence and prediction
of Earthquake by better understanding the
geodynamic behavior of the natural disaster
on the globe. The vision of the cell is to be the
leading Centre for Earthquake Research of
international repute for the investigation of
geodynamic activity. Its related effect based on
research, education and information transfer
to reduce the damages through systematic
understanding of seismological characters

and to provide knowledge needed to mitigate
future earthquake scenario for better planning
and development.
Advances in Geospatial &
Simulation Models for Earthquake
and Disaster Studies
(WAGISM 2014)
About The Workshop
The past decade has seen the devastating
effects of earthquakes striking India with
frightening regularity.The most recent major
earthquakes demonstrated the need for seismic
vulnerability assessment and mitigation as well
as development of seismic resistant structure.
The Mission for development of technologies
for the mitigation and management of
earthquake disasters aims at minimizing the
damage at the time of their occurrence and
immediately thereafter, especially in those
areas where there is already shortage of
resources. The workshop tutorial helps in
deliberating and assessing the earthquake
hazard associated with various important
theories and planning for efficient earthquake
disaster mitigation. The workshop focuses
on the recent geotechnical, geoinformatics,
structural and simulation models and trends
to mitigate earthquake disaster.
