About the Institute:
Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya Memorial Institute of
Technology, affiliated to VTU, Belgaum is an
autonomous Institution offering UG, PG and Doctoral
programmes. It is a unit of Nitte Education Trust,
Mangalore. It currently offers 7 UG programmes in
engineering, 7 M.Tech programmes, MBA and MCA
programmes. It also offers Doctoral Programmes in 10
departments. It is accredited by NBA, New Delhi and an
ISO 9001:2008 certified Institution. It has been
recognized as a ‘Lead Institution’ under the World Bank
Funded TEQIP programme (both Phase I & II).
NMAMIT has completed 25 years of its existence in
2011.
About the Department:
The Department of Information Science and Engineering
was started in 1999 with an intake of 60. The department
has well-qualified and dedicated teaching and nonteaching staff and well-equipped laboratories to fulfil
the academic needs of the students. The B.E (ISE)
program was accredited by the National Board of
Accreditation in 2007. The department conducts special
courses on advanced topics, to bridge the gap between
the university curriculum and the need of the industry.
The department has been granted autonomy by VTU
since 2007. The dept. is offering M.Tech., (Computer
Network Engineering) from Academic Year 2012.
About the Workshop:
With availability of extensive IT application for every
process automation, the revolution in social media for
information exchange, we are experiencing an exponential
data growth. This explosive data growth presents
challenges in its storage and management. The invention
of technology and tools in data storage domain is
addressing much of these challenges. There is a
continuous demand for Data Storage Professionals and
need for them to have a strong basic understanding and
exposure to real world deployment & management
objectives.
In this context, this workshop, which is organized by
Department of Information Science and Engineering
in association with Datalifecycle Company, Bangalore
will try to cover some recent developments in the field
of Storage Area Networks. The workshop also covers
the content of VTU syllabus on Storage Area Networks
& Advanced Storage Area Networks. The deliberations
of this workshop will be useful to faculty, PG and PhD
scholars who are interested to pursue research in this
area and provide a perspective to practicing professional
engineers from industries about this new and relevant
area, which has revolutionized the way data storage is
carried out.

with SAN subject as per VTU syllabus)
O Storage Fundamentals
O Storage Architecture - DAS, SAN and NAS
O Introduction to FC & IP SAN, Live configuration of
FC & IP SAN
O Network Attached Storage - NAS protocols, Live
configuration of NAS
O Data Protection - Snapshot, Backup, RAID and
Replication
O Backup - Types & Process. Live configuration of
simple Backup and Restore function
O Data Replication - DC to DR replication approach
O Storage Virtualization with Live configuration of virtual
LUN provisioning and
O Storage systems Monitoring Alerts and Reports
Participants:
Faculty members of Digital Branches (CS, IS, ECE, MCA
etc.,) in engineering colleges, PG and PhD Research
Scholars with interest in this area can attend this
workshop. Maximum number of participants is restricted
to 40. Selection based on First-cum-First Served basis.
Accommodation:
Limited accommodation on payment basis is available
in hostel / guest house (twin sharing) on first-cum first
served basis.
