SPECIAL COUNSELLING FOR PSORIASIS PATIENTS AT
SRI RAMACHANDRA HOSPITAL

World Psoriasis day was observed at Sri Ramachandra Hospital here today when about 100 patients,
many of them women, interacted with dermatologists and clinical psychologists on dispelling some of the
misconceptions and strengthening the resolve to manage the problem. Dr.R.Sudha, HOD, Dermatology said it
is not a contagious disease. One should not fall for false promises that it can be cured, but certainly it can be
contained with very good medicines available now she said.
Some of the steps that psoriasis patients should take include not getting stressed and spending sleepless
nights, regular check ups and continuation or discontinuation of medicine strictly under doctor’s advice.
Patients who seek treatment for other ailments should inform that doctor about the medicines being taken for
psoriasis so that his medication can suit the patient. Stress is the biggest contributing factor for the aggravation
of Psoriasis . Therefore others in the family should be more accommodative said Dr.Sudha.
Patients expressed apprehensions regarding the spread of the disease to other parts of the body and others,
stress, sleeplessness, recurrence and whether they can engage in routine household works like cooking and
tending to children.
