tomer The cus ter from newslet NEW FRAME SOFTWARE INTRODUCES MORE FEATURES FOR VISIONWEB AND VISIONPANEL CRYSTAL VISION is introducing new front panel software for its Indigo frames, with software version 5.1 bringing particular benefits to users of the VisionWeb and VisionPanel control options. VisionWeb and VisionPanel both work by accessing a board’s XML control interface, which is stored in the frame front panel. The new features on VisionPanel will include frame and slot labelling, virtual cards, an improved layout for the Smart Switch 3G menus and a generally enhanced user experience. The browser-based VisionWeb will get all these, plus password protection. Probably the most welcome new feature is frame and slot labelling, where the user can give meaningful labels up to 24 characters long to frames and slots containing controllable boards, helping the operator understand exactly which board they are operating and its purpose in the system. Those who used Statesman’s composite modules may be interested in the virtual cards feature on VisionWeb and VisionPanel, which can be used to limit user interaction, simplify operation or assemble features for specific control purposes. A selection of controls from one or more boards located in the same frame can be presented as a ‘virtual card,’ with the frame then acting as if it contains an extra board. The virtual card creation process involves direct editing of an XML file which is then put into the frame front panel; this is offered as a chargeable service by Crystal Vision or can be carried out by someone familiar with XML editing.. VisionWeb’s password protection uses a standard protocol called HTTP Basic Authentication and allows a user to control access to all the boards in a frame by editing a list of username/ password pairs inside the frame. Once this is in place anyone can see a list of boards but they need to input a username and password to ‘open’ any boards on VisionWeb and therefore access any controls. Also available courtesy of the new frame software and affecting all control options (including VisionWeb, VisionPanel, Statesman Lite, SNMP, frame integrated control panel and board edge) is engineering and operational backup of the current board state, which allows the control state of a board to be copied and pasted. The new frame software should be released by the end of 2014. Frames running V4.7 software or later can be updated to run the new V5.1 software – to upgrade please contact our support team who can provide you with the code and instructions. If you’re currently running a version of the front panel software which is earlier than V4.7, please contact us for an update feasibility analysis. Additionally, if you want to get the latest product XML files into your current frame, you will need to update the full frame software. WELCOME to the December edition of our “Vision On” newsletter. In this issue you can read about the control benefits you’ll get with our latest frame software as well as a perfect application for our powerful MultiLogo logo keyer. Finally, congratulations to SHM Broadcast – winner of our Distributor of the Year award for the second time following its most successful year ever selling Crystal Vision products in Germany. MORE PIGGYBACK COMBINATIONS WITH DBE-E CRYSTAL VISION has added an extra combination of piggybacks that can be fitted to the TANDEM 310 and SYNNER 310 when used with a DBE-E Dolby encoder add-on – further increasing the flexibility of these two embedded audio boards. The DIOP4 + DIOP4 piggyback combination is now available when a DBE-E is fitted, with the first DIOP4 providing access to four external AES pairs that can be configured as inputs or outputs and the second DIOP4 providing access to two AES pairs available as inputs only. This new piggyback combination follows a customer request, with this customer wanting to use the first DIOP4 to input the AES channels for encoding to Dolby E and the second DIOP4 to bring in one AES pair of normal programme audio plus one AES pair in a second language for embedding. The SYNNER 310 video synchroniser, tracking audio delay and embedder/de-embedder and the TANDEM 310 audio embedder/de-embedder both work with 3Gb/s, HD and SD sources and can embed and de-embed a mixture of up to four groups of AES and two groups of analogue audio at the same time. They include full audio routing, audio and video processing, sophisticated Dolby E handling (including optional Dolby encoding or decoding), integrated fibre connectivity and flexible delay compensation. BEST OF SHOW AWARD FOR SQUEEZE BACK KEYER CRYSTAL VISION’S LKEY-SQZ squeeze back keyer has won a Best of Show award. “TV Technology” magazine’s Best of Show Awards recognised new and outstanding products exhibited at IBC 2014, with the winners selected by panels of professional users and editors following stand visits. The award was presented to Managing Director Philip Scofield on Crystal Vision’s IBC stand. So why did we win? In the words of “TV Technology” magazine: “The Crystal Vision LKEY-SQZ is a unique product. It offers the highest quality picture squeeze and picture-in-picture effects combined with three-layer keying, all in a low-cost modular product. LKEY-SQZ was originally developed for a major broadcaster who required the highest quality picture squeeze and could find no alternative product already on the market.” The modular LKEY-SQZ is ideal for any applications where a 3Gb/s, HD or SD programme needs to be resized or repositioned for another layer of video to be displayed. It uses sub-pixel processing, an excellent de-interlacer and an advanced algorithm to ensure extremely smooth movement from one size to another. LKEY-SQZ can perform a sequence of operations (known as a ‘scene’) using full timeline control of events. Recent developments to LKEY-SQZ include the addition of eight different ‘scenes’, each intended to provide a template for a common usage of the product and easily editable by the operator to meet the exact requirements of a particular application. 2014 R E B M DECE COMPARING OUR UP CONVERSION USING MULTILOGO AS A MASTER CONTROL MIXER TRADITIONAL Master Control Systems with elaborate control surfaces can be quite expensive, and the trend we are seeing in the industry now – with broadcasters putting on more and more channels – is to move away from these systems and go for a smaller, more costeffective solution. The MultiLogo V432 logo keyer is one such solution. A master control mixer is a transmission device, switching between a live studio feed and a recorded feed or connecting together recorded signals and sending the finished programme stream to the encoding systems. There are two ways to use MultiLogo for master control. Firstly, its preview to main capability means it can fulfil the A/B mixer function for a simple master control mixer, sitting next to a router which provides the sources and with MultiLogo using its first two inputs as A and B to set up the ‘now’ and ‘next’ feeds for transmission. Alternatively, it can be used as a mini master control mixer, where it uses its own four inputs to provide the sources. So why does MultiLogo V432 work so well as a Master Control System? A master control mixer needs a minimum of two inputs. MultiLogo V432 has four inputs as standard; use it in combination with the SW803 3G routing switch as one broadcaster is doing (with control software written by DNF Controls) and it becomes an eight input device – perfect for the mini master control mixer application. The master control system needs graphic keying capabilities for branding the different inputs as they are sent to encoding, with a typical system including two or three linear keyers using external key fill sources. MultiLogo V432 includes three keyers and can either take in external graphics or select from up to 500 internally-stored graphics, while a change of logo can easily be incorporated into the preview to main transition. MultiLogo V432 can perform simple transitions when switching between the sources, including fading between them with an optional fade to black first. MultiLogo’s one line TBC is also vital to a master control mixer because it ensures clean switching between the sources. Finally, MultiLogo V432’s audio capabilities allow it to carry out the required audio transmission. The AES output additionally allows for a programme audio pair to be sent out of the device for quality or loudness monitoring. In a simple channel, a Multilogo and SW803 3G could provide all the hardware you need for source selection and graphics – as Crystal Vision customers have already discovered. WE’VE always said that our Up-Down 3G provides the best quality up conversion, and now there’s a way to see this for yourself! Available on the Crystal Vision website at www.crystalvision.tv is a one minute video in which we compare the quality of Up-Down 3G with another manufacturer’s up converter – and it’s very easy to see the difference between the two. It’s a way to do an initial product evaluation without leaving your chair. Whereas all the other Crystal Vision videos to date have streamed from YouTube, this one is different. The purpose of this video is to show Up-Down 3G’s up conversion quality and the best way to do this is by providing a 500 MB file that you can download – which should be quick if you’ve got a fast connection! The video is available for download from the Videos page and from each of the Up-Down 3G web pages, with our up/down/cross converter available in nine versions – each with a feature set to suit different applications. Watch the video to see the output quality that broadcasters standardise on. CASE STUDY: COVERING THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES SYSTEMS INTEGRATOR Dega Broadcast Systems selected Crystal Vision to supply 343 interface boards for the BBC’s UK coverage of the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, during July and August. The Games featured 71 teams from the Commonwealth of Nations and 17 different sports from Athletics to Judo. Dega chose Crystal Vision as the main interface supplier for this project due to the variety of product functionality offered and the excellent technical support. The synchronisers, up and down converters, video delays, distribution amplifiers, deembedders and audio converters were all used for the coverage of the Games on BBC 1, BBC 2 and BBC 3, as well as for 15 interactive red button feeds. 41 SYNNER 310 acted as line synchronisers to ensure clean switching of the multiple lines that were being fed back from Glasgow to the BBC Headquarters in Salford and London. Six Up-Down-A 3G up/down/cross converters were used as utility converters wrapped around station routing, while 17 ViViD 3G – providing up to five and a half seconds of video delay – matched delays elsewhere in the system. A total of 268 distribution amplifiers were used to distribute digital and analogue video signals and AES and analogue audio. 11 TANDEM 310 embedders/deembedders were included to de-embed external feeds in and around the studios, while audio signals were converted from AES to analogue using two DACA214 dual channel audio converters.
