AN UPDATE ON ALL FLI ACTIVITIES YOUR FLI NEWS MARCH 2014 Action Group Media Road Show- Omaheke region Back from the Omaheke region! The Financial Literacy Initiative is back from a successful activation campaign in the Omaheke region. The duration of the activation was from the 7th to the 15th of March 2014. The team has been activating the different towns in the region. The team visited Omitara, Aminius, Otjinene, Epukiro, Driomiopsis, Buitepos, Leonardville and Gobabis. The team engaged with the public through financial education street theatre plays and by also playing the famous Hop-A-Buck game. The Be-Wise Festival Gobabis Omaheke 15th March 2014 The aim of the festival was to bring FLI platform partners together and have a festive event of Financial Literacy education for the public. We want to thank our following Platform Partners for being part of the Be Wise Festival: • Sanlam - Namlife Sunny boy and Adora performing the “Be-WISE’ song in Gobabis, Omaheke • Old Mutual • Standard Bank • Development Bank of Namibia • National Institute for Educational Development (NIED) • Ministry of Finance “Your Participation in the Be Wise Festival is appreciated and made the event a success.” 15th March 2014: Be-Wise Song performance and FLI cake The first time since the Be-Wise song was released in 2013, Sunny Boy and Adora performed the Be-Wise song live in Gobabis . The song which include catchy educational messages was well received by the crowd attending the event. Sunny Boy and Adora interacted well with the public, enhancing the message of the song with them. AN UPDATE ON ALL FLI ACTIVITIES At a Glance Introducing Lineekela Hi, my name is Lineekela Edward. I am from Ondangwa and I completed high school at Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Secondary School in the Oshana region. I recently started my 5 months internship program with GIZ, the Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit through the Partnership for Economic Growth (PEG) Program under Financial Systems Development Component at the Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI) Namibia, from the beginning of February. I am doing my final year at the University of Namibia (UNAM) studying towards an Honours degree majoring in Statistics and minoring in Population Development Studies. I am working in the Action Group, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) at the Financial Literacy Initiative (FLI) Namibia. I am really glad to be able to contribute to the work of the GIZ in Namibia and I hope to learn a lot that can help me become a professional statistician! I also want to contribute to the development of our country. I enjoyed the warm hearted welcome by the FLI-team and I am looking forward to meeting some other GIZ colleagues in the future. TRAINING ACTION GROUP The SME Training Program Since the launch of the SME training programme in October last year, FLI is happy to announce the signing of the SME training contracts. The trainings are conducted by six qualified trainers. The first SME training took place in Windhoek, Khomas region. The FLI is happy with the progress made with the SME training program. FLI &Peace Corps FLI and Peace Corps will be entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU. Peace Corps Volunteers will be conducting FLI trainings in nine (9) regions. This will enhance the outreach of the overall FLI training programs targeted for both Micro and SME Training program. Watch out for more details regarding this. Workplace ACTION GROUP Financial Wellness Workplace Program The FLI conducted it’s first pilot training for Financial Workplace Programs with Godwana group of Lodges. The financial workplace program aims to promote financial wellness among employees and focuses on financial topics such as money and wellbeing, financial planning, savings etc, just to mention a few. The FLI team wishes to thank the Godwana team for supporting the initiative. Cooperation with NABCOA In order to extend the outreach in the area of workplace programs, the financial literacy initiative is working towards forming partnership with the Namibia Business Collision on HIV/AIDS (NABCOA). The two institutions will work together to deliver workplace program workshops. Watch out for the updated NABCOA manual with the latest addition on financial wellness. Let us know whether you are interested in joining this exciting Action Group “Workplace Programs” AN UPDATE ON ALL FLI ACTIVITIES YOUTH ACTION GROUP FLI is pursuing an exciting opportunity for the youth with Bankers Association of Namibia (BAN) , look out in the future for more information. FLI has been meeting with Gilbert de Silva to discuss his “My do & get book”. It is a good initiative to help parents at home to teach their children how to work with money, also linking it to earning pocket money. FLI is still considering how to cooperate with this initiative. Monitoring & Evaluation This Action Group is always very busy. The FLI colleagues are updating M&E data, developing new frameworks and even new M&E guidelines.
