What is a small ensemble?
Small ensembles are groups of instruments (minimum 12) scheduled with other instruments in the same “family,”
those being string, brass, woodwind, percussion. A certified teacher for band and strings will teach each group.
In the small ensemble, students will work on their skills by performing with students in the same grade level.
How are these ensembles being formed?
Woodwind, percussion, string, and brass ensembles will be developed based upon registrations received based
on the above schedule for each school. Some grade sections of like instruments may be combined to one
site if registration falls short – you will be contacted about necessary changes! Some sections may be
cancelled entirely if absolute registration minimums are not met. The district summer school coordinator has final
say on this matter.
What if our family is gone for part of the time? Can we still sign up? Yes! The goal is to keep your child
playing, even if it is for 2 or 3 of the scheduled weeks. Our summer ensembles are enrichment/review focused!
Can my child sign up for more than one group?
Students have opportunities to sign up for string and band instrument ensembles/groups providing the given
schedule accommodates this option. HOWEVER, for instrument ensembles, students must have had prior
instruction on their instrument. A SEPARATE registration must be completed for EACH ensemble.
