THE SHOPPES AT FOX RIVER:
FOX STATUE DESIGN REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL

As you may already be well aware, Ramco-Gershenson Properties has been working to expand the Shoppes at Fox River
site at the corner of Sunset Drive and Oakdale Road, located on the southwest side of Waukesha. Once complete, the
Shoppes at Fox River center will be the largest such development in the city. The shopping center is anchored by Target,
Pick N Save, TJ Maxx, and Hobby Lobby.
In developing the Shoppes at Fox River retail center, one of our goals was to make the site an enjoyable, family-friendly
location that encourages pedestrian traffic and the use of the bike path, which runs along the site. We believe that one
way to support this type of atmosphere is to incorporate artwork created by local artists throughout the site. We have
seen the success of other projects such as the Beastie Beat in Milwaukee, Cow Parade in Madison, and the Dog Days of
Summer in Racine and have decided to model our art in this fashion. We have created five, three-foot tall concrete fox
statues and are inviting artists who live and/or work in Waukesha County to submit design proposals. We have chosen
the fox as our model because of the site’s proximity to the Fox River and also to resemble the fox statues located in
downtown Waukesha. These foxes will be added to the ten already on the site and will be placed in the new expansion
area.
Each artist is expected to submit his or her proposals in conformance with the criteria outlined in this RFP. Artists
selected will be given a $500.00 stipend for this project. This money should be used as a payment for the artists work
and supplies needed to create his or her design. Opus North Corporation will supply a staked plaque highlighting the
artists name and the title of the piece next to each fox. Please note that Ramco-Gershenson Properties will have
ownership over the fox statues.

Items to be Submitted with Application:
When submitting a design, please include the following items:
1. Proof of Concept: Your proof of concept should be a sample of how you expect the finished product to look. You
may submit more than one design. Artists may draw out their own fox outline or use the fox outline provided as a
template. Please also refer to the pictures included in this RFP which highlight the shape, positioning, and texture of
the fox. On each outline of your fox design, please include your name and title of the design.
2. Design Proposal: Please complete all information as requested and include a description statement about your fox
design.
3. About the Artist: With each submission, please include a current biography and any information that may assist the
judges in evaluating your proposal.
Selection Process: A panel of judges will determine the designs for the foxes at Fox River. You will be notified by phone
of the final selection. Ramco-Gershenson Properties is the sole owner of all product and designs produced for this
project by the artist. Ramco-Gershenson Properties reserves the right to reproduce artist designs on merchandise and
in event promotions.

Fox Statue Description:
There are a total of ten (10 foxes. Each fox is approximately three feet tall, made out of concrete. The pictures below
highlight the pose, style, and texture of each statue. Please note that these pictures are not of the three-foot fox but of
a smaller replica and the actual coloring may vary.
General Design Criteria:




Artists may submit more than one design if desired. Please include a proof of concept with each submission.
If you choose, the artist may paint, sculpt, or add appendages to the fox form. The structural integrity of the
form cannot be compromised. Please keep in mind that our goal is to highlight the fox.
Installation calls for finishes that are weatherproof and “kid proof.” These pieces are designed to be interactive
with the public. Elements of nature such as rain, wind, sun, and dirt should be kept in mind when attaching
objects. All fox statues will be displayed outside. Artists should work with appropriate media and finishes to
ensure longevity of artwork on the form and permanent enough to resist removal by normal wear and tear.
Once the fox statue is located on site, Ramco-Gershenson Properties team will perform routine maintenance on
the statue.
It is the responsibility for the artist to treat the fox with appropriate media in such a fashion that once the statue
is picked up from the artist, it can immediately be displayed at the shopping center. All final finishes should be
done before time of pick-up.

If a final design changes racially from the original accepted proposal, the changes must be resubmitted for
review before the process can continue.
No direct label advertising or logos – company or product.
No religious symbols or social disrespect. This is a public display and, therefore, all finished sculptures must be
appropriate for all audiences.
All fox statues will have a plaque located near the statue listing the name of the work and the artist who created
it.

We will be accepting submissions from local artists who work or reside in Waukesha County.
Artists will be notified via phone by September 1, 2014. Upon award, Ramco-Gershenson Properties will work with the
artist to coordinate a date and time for the fox statues to be delivered to the artist’s studio. Ramco-Gershenson
Properties will be responsible for both the delivery and pick-up of the statue from the artist.
