It was built in the beginning of the 1960s near Alexanderplatz as a showpiece of a futuristic architectural ensemble, representing a highpoint in the most modern of GDR architecture, as well as the characteristic culture of Berlin and the dawn of a new era. Karl-Marx-Allee with Cafe Moskau During the GDR, influential members of society met here in the ethnic restaurant, concert and dance café, rose garden, wine bar, tearoom, Moccabar, and nightclub of the pleasure palace dedicated to the people of the Soviet Union. Cafe Moskau was a widespread attraction for national and international guests and a visit to Cafe Moskau was an especially exalted – and for some unattainable – event. The Sputnik satellite over the entrance symbolized technical superiority and the progressive dynamic of this central public space, radiating out into the world. The spaciousness, openness, and transparency of the two-storied atrium building allowed for multifunctional use at any time. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, a vibrant techno and party scene conquered the building. Cafe Moskau became the in-spot of the party, film, and music scene and represented world-open Berlin, attracting international youth. Karl-Marx-Allee in the sixties Since 2009, the legendary Cafe Moskau has been a multifunctional events location for small, exclusive events as well as for shows and parties with up to 2,400 guests. The sprawling main entrance on the former GDR parade street is recognizable from afar by the Sputnik satellite. The preserved wall mosaic “From the Life of the People of the Soviet Union” recalls the history and international-orientation of the architectural icon. A modern entrance on the East side as well as separate service entrances also allow for the hosting of multiple events. Event hall MOSKAU Event hall MOSKAU Spaciousness, transparency, and aesthetic are the main characteristics of the light-flooded spaces surrounding the glassed inner courtyard of this representative public building. On three stories, a total of 4,000 m² of functional space is available for smaller events, as well as for larger events with up to 2,400 guests. Day or night, Cafe Moskau is an attractive location for conferences, congresses, presentations, conventions, exhibitions, workshops, premieres, receptions, celebrations, and parties, as well as a popular filming location for music videos, commercials, and feature films. Spacious, open foyers lead to the main attraction of Cafe Moskau: The 382 m² large hall “ALMATY” on the ground floor, with direct entry to the inner courtyard terrace, and the 449 m² larger hall “MOSKAU” on the first floor, with a view over KarlMarx-Allee and Kino International. Both halls offer space for more than 700 guests. Moveable, detachable walls and curtains make it possible to easily change the room at any time according to the wishes and various needs of the event organizer. The Atrium and Rose Garden terraces under the open sky are available for all occasions and are often used for receptions, catering, and breaks or intermissions. The 15 further rooms, with 160 to 200 m² of space, offer various adaptable possibilities for use. The main attraction of Cafe Moskau is, last but not least, the legendary Club Sputnik in the basement.
