Made in North Somerset programme

Made in North
Somerset Showcase
Introduction
The ‘Made in North Somerset’ Festival is a three week
celebration of food, drink, art and craft events
across North Somerset. The festival, coordinated
by North Somerset Council, acts as a showcase
for the rich variety of talent across North
Somerset and helps to raise the profile of these
producers and makers. Once discovered we hope
people will go on to support these local producers
throughout the year and shop local.
During the festival there will be ample opportunity to see behind the scenes and
find out what goes into making, growing and producing some of these fantastic
products. The ‘meet the maker’ events include food and craft workshops,
demonstrations, apple juicing, markets, brewery and vineyard tours, farm open
days, wild foraging walks, orchard open days, and tasting evenings.

The festival finale is our ‘Made in North Somerset Showcase’ at the National Trust
Tyntesfield Estate on 4 and 5 October. We’ve brought together 42 North Somerset
producers to sell their food, drink art and craft products each day. The weekend
will also be crammed full of activities and entertainment - live music, children’s
activities, demonstrations, food trail, apple pressing, a bake off, kitchen garden
tours, talks and even a chef’s chop and chat!
This year we are delighted that University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol is
sponsoring the Made in North Somerset festival.

making the highest quality Cheddar cheese
using traditional methods and skills such as the
age-old ‘Cheddaring’. This process of turning
and stacking the curd by hand is now used
alongside new technology. When it’s time to
select the cheese, expert graders decide which
cheese is best eaten young and which should
be left to mature.
