A Note from the President…
I just celebrated 20 years with GVH on July
15th, and on that day, I took a minute to
reflect on the last 20 years. When I moved
to Lubbock, Texas from Portland, Oregon, I
never imagined I would stay in Texas and
work for a 6 person company which
included my father-in-law, Buddy Furgerson,
as the President and his wife, Beth, as the
one person team in Accounts Payable and
Accounts Receivable. Our annual sales back
then was $3 million dollars a year, and our
Lubbock/Amarillo office did a combined
total of $644,000 a year. I’m happy to say
Lubbock and Amarillo will do over $35
million dollars in sales, and the GVH Family
of Companies will have another record year
in sales of over $100 million dollars in
2014. Buddy and Beth took a great risk in
hiring me (their 30 year old son-law at the
time) and giving me almost total autonomy
to their family business. As I say often,
“success is not by accident and neither is
failure”; I am so proud of all our team
members that made this happen and will
continue to help grow the company to our
$1 billion dollar a year goal in sales. I’m
looking forward to the next 20 years of
exceeding customers’ expectations and
watching our team members grow and
succeed in their professional growth and
career. Thank you; I feel very fortunate to be
your President of the GVH Family of
Companies. – Joe Schmidt

GVH Distribution Employee Highlights
Whitney Potts
Whitney Potts is our Purchasing Team Leader within the GVH Family
of Companies. She has been with our company for 6 years. She has
been selected to be a highlighted employee this month for her
outstanding efforts with our Spokane and Alabama branches this
year. Whitney is from Boys Ranch, TX. She has been married to Jody
Potts for 22 years. They have 3 children, a daughter in law, and 3
grandchildren. Marcus is 23 and married to his wife, Lindsey. They
have 2 children, Aiden who is 4 years old and Natalie who is 1 year
old. Herschel is 21 and has a 2 year old daughter named Raylee.
Marcus and his wife are stationed in Fort Hood, Sarah works at
United, and Herschel works at GVH! Whitney’s favorite place to eat is
Saltgrass Steakhouse. She is scared of spiders, snakes, and mice.
And, if she could have any animal as a pet, she would stick with a
dog! We want to thank Whitney for her hard work and dedication to
GVH Family of Companies!
Clay Robinett
Clay Robinett is our Chief Financial Officer. He has been with our
company for almost 4 years. Clay has been selected to be a
highlighted employee this month for his outstanding efforts with our
Spokane and Alabama branches this year. Clay is from Lamesa, Texas
and moved to Lubbock when he was 2 years old. He is married to
Traci; they dated in high school and college and have been married
now for 3 years. Clay and Traci have twin girls who are 6 months old!
Their names are Helen Francis and Gloria Gwen. Clay’s favorite actor
is Christoph Waltz. His favorite food is Mexican food. And if he could
travel anywhere in the world, he would travel to the beach (preferably
Fiji, not South Padre!). We want to thank Clay for his hard work and
dedication to GVH Family of Companies!
Corby Bleckert
Corby Bleckert is our Vice President of Operations. He has been with our
company for 2 years. Corby has been in the grocery business since he
was 15 years old. While he was working at AFS as the Director of their
Center Store he met Joe and Sean, and the rest is history! He has been
selected to be a highlighted employee this month for his outstanding
efforts with our Spokane and Alabama branches this year. Corby is from
Utah. He says that Utah is the perfect place for raising his family and
being outdoors. He is married to his amazing wife, Marci. They have 2
children Ashlee, 17 years old, and Marlee, 6 years old. When he is not at
work, Corby likes to travel with his family. A little known fact about Corby
is that he has visited over 30 different countries around the world. His
family is always trying to find new places to explore. Corby also loves
being outdoors which makes Utah perfect for him and his family. He says
that there are 6 ski resorts within a 20 minute drive that have amazing
mountains for skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding. He deems them a “ski
family” (Winter Olympics 2018?). In the summer, he enjoys hiking,
camping, and exploring Utah with his family. He says that if he ever hit
the million dollar lottery jackpot he would retire and travel the world! He
doesn’t have a favorite movie, but he does like funny movies and the
occasional history based flick! We want to thank Corby for his hard work
and dedication to GVH Distribution and our family of companies!

-Ask your manager or supervisor for a list of expectations for the remainder of the year.
This will help you to set short term goals and work toward them, therefore, reconnecting
you.
-Reflect on past events to understand what motivates you. Think of a time you had a
really difficult task and you managed and completed it. So rewarding!
