We have a keen interest in multi-centre research and take part in most major national trials. We
have also commenced single unit research and have 2 dedicated ICU research nurses as well as
strong links with the University of Canterbury. We strongly advocate critical care ultrasound and
encourage trainees to become familiar with focussed echocardiography. The critical care Page 1 (of 3)
department will be “paperless” from April 2014 and we intend to utilise the data to increase our
research and audit capabilities.
