Our Community
CVES is seeking a candidate who has a wide range of experience, skills
and competencies working in an educational institution, preferably in
New York State. The ideal candidate would:
Have a thorough understanding of school business administration
in NYS schools including finance, budget development,
asset management, capital project planning, risk management,
payroll, audits, purchasing, and NYS school financial regulations and
reporting.
Possess appropriate certification: SDA, SDL, SDBL, or other NYS
district-level certification preferred, will also consider NYS Civil Service qualified candidates.
Have expertise in direct supervision of employees, including assigning duties, employee evaluations, and setting priorities.
Have superior writing and speaking skills, plus familiarity with WinCap financial software.
Have knowledge of the financial structure of a BOCES, including
funding streams, budget approval procedures, and NYS BOCES Aid.
Have experience working in a team setting to develop departmental
budgets (as the SBE does with the four CVES divisional leaders).
Have experience managing insurance, negotiating contracts, and
overseeing bank reconciliations.
Have experience in long-term planning for equipment management,
facilities maintenance, and capital projects.
Have experience managing employee benefits plan contracts.
Assist local school districts in shared business functions and improving
district and business office efficiency.
Champlain Valley Educational Services (CVES) serves 17 component
school districts in Clinton, Essex, Warren and Washington counties. Located
on Lake Champlain in upstate New York, the CVES service area covers more
than 2,300 square miles, stretching from Lake George to the Canadian
border.
CVES is located partly within the Adirondack State Park, with easy access
to a multitude of family-friendly, four-season outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, rappelling, fishing, hunting, ice skating, downhill and crosscountry skiing. The nearby Adirondack Mountains attract many “46ers,” who
climb all 46 High Peaks.

CVES Profile
The combined enrollment of the CVES component districts is approximately
14,000 students. The on-campus enrollment in CVES programs is 850.
During the 2014-15 school year, the projected CVES budget will be
$34,218,515.
CVES has four divisions: CV-TEC (Career & Technical Education),
Special Education, Instructional Services, and Administration
Services, with 307 full-time employees, and many part-timers.
CVES has five campuses:
• One in Mineville, NY (CV-TEC and Special Education)
• Four in Plattsburgh, NY:
• Main Campus (CV-TEC and Special Education)
• Plattsburgh Satellite Campus (Administration Services & CV-TEC)
• Instructional Services Center (professional development, tech
operations, data analysis, and communication services)

Position
The School Business Executive (SBE) is responsible
for all financial aspects of CVES. The SBE is part of
the District Superintendent’s Cabinet, acts as a liaison
to, and as a resource for the business managers of the
17 CVES component school districts. As part of the
Joint Management Team, the SBE represents CVES at
regional meetings of BOCES business executives.

services, facilities management, and will be involved in the CVES Strategic Planning Initiative.
