WHEN A SMALL group of hauliers came together in
1983 with the common aim of bringing clarity to the rules
and regulations that governed their industry, as well as
promoting best practice, many would not have envisaged
that they would still be going strong 30 years later
The Heavy Transport Association (HTA) is the only
specialist trade association for the heavy/abnormal load
industry. Examples of members include, but are not
limited to, abnormal load hauliers, truck and trailer
manufacturers, route surveyors, permit agents, consultants,
abnormal load escorters, ferry owners and infrastructure
owners and managers. As a result of this wide-ranging
group, HTA members are consequently a highly specialist
group of operators with very different needs to other
sectors of the transportation industry.

the industry, for example Whole Vehicle Type Approval.
The book is supported by excellent pictures and stories
which generates a lot of general interest in this sector.”
● David Collett, MD, Collett & Sons; “As a committee
member for the HTA and president of ESTA [European
association of abnormal road transport and mobile
cranes], I found the yearbook a great reference tool. It
offers a comprehensive review on all aspects of the
association’s work, a great illustration of our industry’s
expertise and shows just what our members are capable
