BACKGROUNDER
PUCKRANT.COM IS THE WORLD-WIDE HOCKEY WEBSITE. TALK HARD.
Puckrant.com is an Alberta-based website that offers current events stats and rumour involving
anything that has to do with hockey.
Pre-season *
Puckrant was an idea conceived from former Hockey Buzz writer, Richard Cloutier from
Edmonton. Cloutier wanted to create a world-wide hockey website covering all major leagues
across the world by utilizing established writers from across Canada and student writers from
Edmonton, Calgary and their surrounding cities.
Puckrant went live December 19, 2013 and has been going strong in its first month of operations.
Game Day
Today Puckrant.com offers an extensive look around the world of professional hockey, like the
NHL, AHL, KHL and other European leagues, junior hockey, like the WHL, OHL, QMJHL and
CIS and women’s hockey.
Puckrant has 50 writers under contract who are mandated to write three articles a week on their
team or league that they have been assigned.
The 50 writers write pre-game and post-game stories, features on players, and opinions on how
their team is doing and what they need to do to improve themselves.
Overtime
Cloutier hopes for Puckrant.com’s readership to continue to grow in the future, ad hopes to have
all 30 NHL teams blogging on a regular basis. Puckrant.com looks to become the premier
blogging website rivaling that of hockeybuzz.com and bleacherreport.com. *

The Puckrant Report
NHL trade deadline
fast approaching
T
he unofficial annual
holiday that is the NHL
trade deadline is nearing increasingly faster as more and
more names are being thrown
around.
Pending unrestricted free
agents Thomas Vanek (Islanders), Ryan Callahan (Rangers),
Matt Moulson (Sabres), Ales
Hemsky (Oilers), Marian
Gaborik (Blue Jackets) and
Michael Cammalleri (Flames)
are all expected to be moved
by March 5, before the 1 p.m.
mountain time deadline.
Of the names listed above
Callahan seems like the least
likely to move because his
Rangers are still in the hunt
for the postseason and they are
looking to re-sign their captain
long term as the Rangers look
to return to the postseason.
But if a deal cannot be reached
between Callahan and Rangers
general manager, Glen Sather,
expect Callahan to be moved
to another playoff contender as
a rental player.
There are also players who
are in play as potential trade
bait who are under contract
but are playing on teams that
are potentially setting up for a
rebuild or are looking to move
some of their assets. Players
like Ryan Kesler (Canucks),
Sam Gagner (Oilers), Christian
Ehrhoff (Sabres), and Ladislav
Smid (Flames), have had their
names tossed around in the
final week leading up to the
deadline.
Puckrant.com guarntees that
it will have in depth blogs and
articles on each of the trades
as they happen during the
deadline day March 5.
TSN will be covering the
trade deadline live on their annual show Tradecentre, which
will be the last time for a while
as the NHL becomes exclusve
to Sportsnet and Rogers media
next season.
Puckrant’s 3 most likely
to move by March 5
1. Thomas Vanek (NY Islanders)
-A high scoring winger with
no contract will get a ton of
attention from most teams
with the cap space. Chances of
moving 9.5/10.
2. Michael Cammalleri (Flames)
- The pending UFA has been
offered a contract by the Flames
and has yet to sign it, so expect
the Flames to move him before
he has the chance to leave as
a free agent in the summer.
His 6.5 million dollar contract
may make him harder to move
but teams are interested in
his scoring ability. Chances of
moving 8.5/10.
3. Matt Moulson (Sabres)
-A tough player who has played
on the top line for two teams this
season. Moulson brings a little
more physicallity in his game
than most players available,
which will make him a tempting
target for teams who could
use some size heading into the
postseason. Chances of moving
8/10.
