The Puckrant Report NHL trade deadline fast approaching T he unofficial annual holiday that is the NHL trade deadline is nearing increasingly faster as more and more names are being thrown around. Pending unrestricted free agents Thomas Vanek (Islanders), Ryan Callahan (Rangers), Matt Moulson (Sabres), Ales Hemsky (Oilers), Marian Gaborik (Blue Jackets) and Michael Cammalleri (Flames) are all expected to be moved by March 5, before the 1 p.m. mountain time deadline. Of the names listed above Callahan seems like the least likely to move because his Rangers are still in the hunt for the postseason and they are looking to re-sign their captain long term as the Rangers look to return to the postseason. But if a deal cannot be reached between Callahan and Rangers general manager, Glen Sather, expect Callahan to be moved to another playoff contender as a rental player. There are also players who are in play as potential trade bait who are under contract but are playing on teams that are potentially setting up for a rebuild or are looking to move some of their assets. Players like Ryan Kesler (Canucks), Sam Gagner (Oilers), Christian Ehrhoff (Sabres), and Ladislav Smid (Flames), have had their names tossed around in the final week leading up to the deadline. Puckrant.com guarntees that it will have in depth blogs and articles on each of the trades as they happen during the deadline day March 5. TSN will be covering the trade deadline live on their annual show Tradecentre, which will be the last time for a while as the NHL becomes exclusve to Sportsnet and Rogers media next season. Puckrant’s 3 most likely to move by March 5 1. Thomas Vanek (NY Islanders) -A high scoring winger with no contract will get a ton of attention from most teams with the cap space. Chances of moving 9.5/10. 2. Michael Cammalleri (Flames) - The pending UFA has been offered a contract by the Flames and has yet to sign it, so expect the Flames to move him before he has the chance to leave as a free agent in the summer. His 6.5 million dollar contract may make him harder to move but teams are interested in his scoring ability. Chances of moving 8.5/10. 3. Matt Moulson (Sabres) -A tough player who has played on the top line for two teams this season. Moulson brings a little more physicallity in his game than most players available, which will make him a tempting target for teams who could use some size heading into the postseason. Chances of moving 8/10. OUR ROSTER –WRITING STAFF What is Puckrant.com?
