Each provided information regarding the creation of an integrated math pathway for student programs offered to grades seven through twelve Ojai Unified students. A detailed Power-Point was presented to the Board, copies of which are available, upon request. Also contributing to the evening, and from the VCOE office of Curriculum and Instruction was Math Specialist Jim Short. The Integrated Math Pathway is a method in which the math curriculum in the Ojai Unified students grades seven through twelve will be coordinated, taught and assessed in new ways. The curriculum combines several mathematics topics such as algebra, geometry and statistics into single courses. These course changes are aligned with the Common Core Standards and the shift is consistent with instruction of mathematics for increased focus, rigor and coherence. This method has been adopted by other school districts across the state. Dr. Bangser thanked Jim Short for his participation and asked his opinion of the progress made to date. Mr. Short complimented the OUSD leadership and teachers for their work thus far. Dr. Bangser thanked the group for the high-quality presentation this evening. He indicated that the amount of time spent in collaboration and the passion of the staff came across in the presentation tonight. He acknowledged that the best learning experiences for students come from interactive communication and commended this integrated approach which takes away the compartmentalization of math instruction. This matter was changed to an information only item and will be calendared for our March 11 Board meeting as an action item. 7. Action/Information Calendar 7.1 Personnel 7.2.
