Guidelines electronical thesis - Universitätsbibliothek Braunschweig

Guidelines for the electronic publication of thesis
According to the regulations of each department, Braunschweig University Library offers you the
option of publishing your thesis in an electronic format.
The number of printed and electronic copies to be submitted depends on the specifications of the
particular department. You can find a continually updated list at:
http://www.biblio.tu-bs.de/dissertation/dissex.html
The printed thesis should be printed double-sided on durable, wood- and acid-free paper (according
to DIN ISO 9706) and has to be permanently bound (binding without metal staples, no spiral binding).
The format requirements (DIN A4, DIN A5, etc.) are defined in the regulations of your department.
The electronic version of your thesis can be delivered on a non-rewriteable CD or DVD. We accept
only quality discs (Sony, Maxell, Verbatim, Kodak, etc.) in a jewel case. Unbranded discs or rewritable
CDs or DVDs will be refused.
The CD or DVD must include:
-
the electronic version of your thesis as a PDF file. The electronic version has to be an exact
equivalent of the print version (no formal and substantive changes). It is not allowed to
protect the file by a password. Please name your file in the form
“Diss_LastName_FirstName.pdf” and do not use umlauts or special characters.
-
a simple text file (“Abstract_deutsch.txt”) without formatting (no superscript or subscript
characters, not bold or italics, …) with the German title of your thesis and a German abstract
of max. 2,500 characters including spaces. Please note that the title of your thesis is not
included in the specified number of characters.
-
a simple text file (“Abstract_englisch.txt”) without formatting (no superscript or subscript
characters, not bold or italics, …) with the English title of your thesis and an English abstract
of max. 2,500 characters including spaces. Please note that the title of your thesis is not
included in the specified number of characters.
If you cannot create a PDF file yourself or you cannot burn a CD or DVD, you can use our
PC workstations at Braunschweig University Library.
The printed copies and the electronic version of your thesis have to be submitted to Braunschweig
University Library for free.
Please ask at the office of your department if you have to submit further printed copies or CDs.
In addition, you have to fill in and sign an application form and a solemn affirmation. You can find
both documents on the following pages.
Submitting your thesis
-
Please make an appointment for personal submission. The thesis office is open from

After checking your documents (usually the next working day) you can come to the thesis
office yourself and get the confirmation for your department, or we will send it by internal
mail directly to your department. For further inquiries please leave your phone number and

Solemn affirmation concerning publishing of a thesis in electronic form
The postgraduate allows TU Braunschweig and Braunschweig University
Library to make copies of the electronic thesis. They will be added by
metadata and provided on the servers for further use. The electronic thesis
might be converted to other formats. The bibliographic data and abstracts will be
made available for databases. The electronic thesis will be archived and published
on the Internet, as long as this is technically possible and can be done with
reasonable effort.
The postgraduate permits Braunschweig University Library the simple right of
use, for an unlimited period of time, to reproduce the electronic thesis in public
data networks and apply them according to individual demand. The postgraduate
agrees that the electronic thesis can be delivered to “Die Deutsche Bibliothek” for
archiving and making available under the applicable law and, if necessary, to
libraries with special collections, too.
The postgraduate also confirms that no third party rights are violated by
publishing the electronic version of the thesis.
