Meet Josh Goodwin, our Girls Basketball Coach. Coach Goodwin is beginning his 2nd year as the Head Basketball Coach for the Summit Spartans. He is excited to watch his team compete in a very competitive girls basketball district (11 AAA). All players will be instrumental in making the big step from the previous AA district to this year’s AAA district. Prior to arriving at Summit, Coach Goodwin was the Head Basketball Coach at Sycamore High School for both the boys and the girls teams. During his 2 year tenure as the Head Coach he led the War Eagles to 1 District Championship & 2 District Championship game appearances. The girls team made it further than any team in school history and was knocked out 2 years in a row by eventual State Champion CPA. Coach Goodwin also trains many boys and girls players in the Mid State area. Throughout his 5 years as a high school coach and 8 years as a trainer, Goodwin has seen more than 30 of his former players move on to play basketball at the college level and will have multiple players at the professional level in the near future. Goodwin’s basketball coaching career began at Sycamore High School. He was the top assistant for the War Eagles boys and girls basketball teams for 2 years. Goodwin then moved to his alma mater, Harpeth High School to assist the boys basketball team for one season. Goodwin then returned to Sycamore as the Head Coach of both basketball teams. Goodwin also coached high level travel teams on the Nike and Adidas circuits for several years. Coach Goodwin is a graduate from Harpeth High School where he played 3 years of varsity basketball. In those 3 years his team won 3 district championships, 1 region championship, and advanced to the Sectional championship twice. He scored over 2200 points, was 3 time district MVP, 3 time All-state, and was runner up for Mr. Basketball during his junior and senior seasons. He holds school records for most points in a game(50) and career(2212). He played his College basketball at Belmont University for Head Coach Rick Byrd. During his time at Belmont (’03-‘07) they won 2 conference championships and went to 2 NCAA Tournaments (2006 UCLA & 2007 Georgetown) and 1 NIT tournament. He scored over 1000 points and was an allconference player. He holds school and conference records for most points scored in a game(39) and most 3s made in a game(11).
