Summer 2014
An Important Message from our President
2014 has been a fast paced year and is swiftly passing by. It
has been an extremely busy time for the Officers and Office
Staff of Teamsters Local 676. I am pleased to say that there
has been an abundance of contract negotiations and productive
organizing drives to date.
Howard W. Wells I would like to wish all of our members and their families a
safe and enjoyable summer. We look forward to seeing everyone in September in
good health. Remember, that my door is always open. Please do not assume that I
know that there is an issue with the employer or the local union. If there is a problem that is not being addressed or handled properly, do not hesitate to contact me!

2014 Fall
Teamsters 676 Annual Picnic Update
Meeting Schedule
Just a reminder that this year’s annual picnic is fast approaching. That
being said, I wanted to personally address some comments that I have been receiving concerning the $10.00 ticket cost instituted this year. I am sure that we all can
agree on one thing, that the picnic at the JJC Campgrounds is a class A event, and
with any such event that comes at a cost. The cost per person attending is approximately $40.00. We must guarantee that park 1,350 people in order to reserve the
park; this has never been a problem. The problem, and the reason for the $10 fee,
has been the number of members who call to reserve their tickets and do not show
up on the day of the picnic. Last year we had over 600 people who did not show!
This cost the local union in excess of $20,000.00 for these members who did not
come. As your elected representatives and stewards of your local union, we cannot in good conscience continue to waste this amount of money year after year.
We were faced with a problem. Not wanting to punish the 1,500 members and
their families who enjoy this picnic every year, we did not want to consider cancelling this event. After much discussion it was decided to charge a nominal cost
to attend. The cost, we felt, would make people more apt to attend if they “had
skin in the game” so to speak. I am sure you can understand the importance of not
only keeping the costs in check, but ensuring that all those who would like to attend this great event continue to be able to do so. I ask that if you have attended
this event in the past or would like to attend in the future, please call your business
agent or local union office and arrange to purchase your tickets. For the cost of
taking your family to McDonalds, you can have a fun filled day of swimming, games, water sports, music, drinks and awesome food. Thank you
for your consideration and I look forward to seeing everyone at this year’s
event.
Fraternally,
Howard W. Wells

Teamster members, including Business Agent Tom Lyon, were
on hand this past November to welcome home Pfc. Ryan
McGuiness from his bomb hunting duties in Afghanistan. Ryan
is the son of UPS employee Bob McGuiness and his wife Terri.
UPS drivers Phil Mackara and Rich Berkey participated in the
Warriors Watch motorcycle escort from the Philadelphia Airport. There was a huge community presence to welcome home
this War Hero. Stay safe Ryan and God Bless.
The Teamsters UPS National Negotiating Committee, pursuant
to Article XII of the IBT Constitution, announced that the 2013
National Master United Parcel Service Agreement, All Supplements, Riders and Addenda is in effect starting April 25, 2014.
The wages contained in the agreement are retroactive to August
1, 2013 and UPS has committed to expediting the checks for
Teamster members’ retroactive wage increases. The retro check
will be a separate check to avoid being taxed at a higher rate. In
addition, UPS will begin making retroactive contributions to the
health and welfare and pension funds immediately. UPS currently owes over $300 million to Teamster members and funds. Now
Teamsters will be made whole.
The agreement contains unparalleled wage and benefit increases.
New language offers strong protection from harassment and retaliation. In addition, the new 9.5 language, protections regarding
SurePost and all of the other improvements and protections contained in the new agreement will be in effect.
Changes to health care will go into effect June 1, 2014. Members
whose health care is changing as a result of this agreement will
be receiving information in the coming weeks regarding benefits.
(cited from IBT website April 2014)
Ours is a great heritage; we are determined with all our effort and all our might to keep it intact. The workers in
the factories, the farmers on the land, the business men in plants and offices, are at last awake to the perils that
threaten America. No selfish interest, no personal ambition, no political campaign, can sway the majority will of
our people of America to make America strong, and to keep America free . ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt
